Summary: This study compared the clinical presentations and survivals of NSCLC patients with occult lymph node metastasis (OLNM) and those with evident lymph node metastasis (ELNM), and analyzed the predictive factors for OLNM. The results showed that OLNM was not rare and was not a favorable prognosis factor for resected NSCLC patients with lymph node metastasis. Positive lymph nodes (PLN) was the only prognostic factor for patients with OLNM, and clinical tumor size was a strong predictive factor for OLNM.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed clinical N0 lung adenocarcinoma patients and found that preoperative CEA level, tumor size, and consolidation/tumor ratio were independent risk factors for lymph node metastasis. It has been suggested that the lymph node metastasis rate is extremely low in clinical N0 lung adenocarcinoma patients with tumor size ≤ 3 cm, and lymph node dissection should be avoided in patients without risk factors to reduce surgical trauma.

Summary: This study aims to quantitatively predict the risk of occult contralateral lymph node metastasis in HSCC patients with ipsilateral lymph node metastasis, and construct two nomograms to guide treatment selection. Multivariate analyses identified several factors as independent risk factors for contralateral lymph node metastasis, and the nomograms provide guidance on the necessity of contralateral lymph node dissection and therapeutic radiation targeting. High-risk patients should receive contralateral lymph node dissection, while moderate-risk and low-risk patients require varying levels of follow-up and treatment.

Summary: Lymph nodes are important organs that control immune cells and provide a pathway for tumors to spread. Nanoparticles offer several advantages for effective lymphatic delivery, including tailored size for migration and targeting of specific cells. Existing contrast agents are not able to selectively target metastatic lymph nodes, but nanoparticles can achieve this goal. Additionally, functionalized nanoparticles can deliver anticancer drugs to metastatic lymph nodes. This review discusses the use of nanoparticles for lymphatic mapping and highlights design considerations for detecting metastatic lymph nodes. Future directions for lymph node-targeting nanoparticles are also suggested.

Summary: This study investigated whether contralateral bullae/blebs should be resected simultaneously during ipsilateral VATS bullectomy. The presence of contralateral bullae/blebs was found to be associated with a higher risk of contralateral pneumothorax, but the annual rate of pneumothorax decreased over time. Therefore, a conservative approach is recommended for unruptured contralateral bullae/blebs.

Summary: We have achieved the conformal growth of sp2-hybridized few-layer h-BN on an array of Si-based nanotrenches using pulsed-mode MOCVD method. X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations reveal that B-O bonds formed on the noncatalytic SiO2 surface serve as nucleation sites for the subsequent formation of mixed sp2- and sp3-hybridized BON2 and BN3. This allows for the conformal growth of few-layer sp2-hybridized h-BN with excellent step coverage, which can be used for advanced three-dimensional Si-based nanoscale architectures.

Summary: Topological textures of ferroelectric polarizations have potential applications in future information technology. However, energy losses and deviations from stability can affect the symmetry and shape of these textures. In this study, we investigated the domain structure of bismuth tungsten oxide thin films grown on SrTiO3 substrates using advanced microscopy techniques. We discovered a hidden phase with a different polarization orientation that promotes the formation of flux closure domains, bringing us one step closer to an isotropic two-dimensional polar material.

Summary: We propose a method using sodium molybdate liquid alloys to control atomic defects at grain boundaries of monolayer MoS2. The Mo-rich environment in the alloys leads to the formation of Mo-polar 5|7 defects with a yield exceeding 95%. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity of VLS-grown polycrystalline MoS(2) films is enhanced due to the suppression of nonradiative recombination of charged excitons with donor-type defects of adsorbed Na elements.

Summary: When foreign cations are doped into ABO(3)-type perovskite oxides, they usually replace A or B sites depending on their ionic size. This study uncovers the presence of indium dopants occupying square-planar interstices and charge-compensating Ba vacancies at grain boundaries in polycrystalline BaTiO3. This chemical heterogeneity inhibits grain-boundary migration and enables the attainment of fine-grain microstructures with unprecedented dielectric properties.
