Summary: It has been found that individuals with ADHD often have subclinical inflammation, with elevated levels of IL-6 and reduced levels of TNF-alpha. Further large-scale and longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The levels of neurometabolites such as Glutamate, Glutamine, Glx, and N-acetylaspartate in various brain regions differ in patients with bipolar disorder. The altered levels of NAA and Gln may be associated with the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder.

Summary: Physical activity is associated with better global functioning in the general population and in people with physical conditions, but there is limited evidence on its association with mental disorders. This meta-analysis found a moderate positive correlation between daily physical activity levels and global functioning in individuals with mental disorders.

Summary: Lafora disease is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder with no treatment. This study conducted pre-clinical trials on an Epm2b - / - mouse model to investigate the therapeutic effects of modulating glutamatergic transmission and anti-neuroinflammatory interventions. The results showed that drugs such as memantine, resveratrol, and minocycline improved the disease at the behavioral level. Therefore, these therapeutic strategies could be beneficial for Lafora disease patients.

Summary: The study investigates the association between the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and multiple mental disorders using a cross-disorder genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis. The findings suggest that the ECS may be a shared pathway in mental disorders. Nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified as significantly associated with a change in risk of having a mental disorder, with the DAGLA gene showing the strongest association.

Summary: This review examines how dysregulated glutamatergic mechanisms contribute to cognitive and behavioral impairments in Alzheimer's disease, and discusses potential therapeutic approaches to address these deficits. The authors focus on the pathological alterations of the tripartite synapse and highlight the development of novel glutamatergic drug candidates for treating AD.

Summary: Many individuals with psychiatric disorders experience difficulties in sensory processing. This meta-analysis examined the sensory processing patterns of adolescent and adult individuals with different psychiatric conditions. The findings suggest that sensory processing difficulties are a non-specific transdiagnostic phenotype associated with a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders.

Summary: The present study found a significant association between religious and spiritual practices and mental health in older adults. Older adults with higher levels of religious and spiritual practices had a lower prevalence of anxiety and depressive symptoms, as well as greater life satisfaction, psychological well-being, better social relations, and more definite meaning in life. The findings were supported by longitudinal studies.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of poor quality of life (QoL) among people living with mental illness in Africa. The results showed that almost half of the patients had poor QoL, and factors such as illiteracy, comorbid medical conditions, low income, positive symptoms, and negative symptoms were predictors of poor QoL.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the association between plasma/serum levels of soluble TNFR1 and TNFR2 and severe mental illnesses (SMIs). The results showed that sTNFR1 levels were significantly higher in SMI, particularly in bipolar disorder. sTNFR2 levels were also elevated in SMI but to a lesser extent. These findings further support the link between altered immune system and inflammatory abnormalities in SMI, especially in patients with bipolar disorder.

Summary: Despite the high prevalence of smartphone ownership and the perceived usefulness of mental health applications among patients with mental disorders, only a small proportion of them currently use these applications. This study highlights the potential to increase the utilization of mental health apps for self-care in the digital era, and calls for further research to address barriers and improve app utilization.

Summary: A systematic review of epidemiological studies between 2006 and 2020 found that there is a high prevalence of mental disorders in children younger than 7 years, with oppositional defiant disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder being the most common. Anxiety and depressive disorders were also prevalent, and comorbidity was observed in a significant portion of young children. The study highlights the need for age-appropriate treatment for young children with mental disorders.
