Summary: Exposure to metal-(loid)-s is identified as a key factor in the prevalence of abdominal obesity in rural areas of China. Urinary chromium consistently emerges as the top contributor to abdominal obesity, and the overall effect of mixed metal-(loid)-s is positive. The elevation of apolipoprotein B and systolic blood pressure significantly mediate the association between urinary chromium and the odds of having abdominal obesity.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a growing trend of obesity and dyslipidemia among young adult men in South Korea. This study aimed to identify the obesity-related factors of dyslipidemia among young adult men in Korea. The study included 1559 eligible men aged 19-39 years and examined the association between dyslipidemia and participants' general characteristics, health-related characteristics, and food intake according to obesity status. Factors affecting dyslipidemia included age, body image perception, stress, and waist circumference in the BMI < 25 kg/m(2) group, and age and waist circumference in the BMI ≥ 25 kg/m(2) group. Interventions should be developed separately for different weight groups to prevent and manage dyslipidemia in young adult men. Measuring waist circumference and focusing on body fat control are important for effective intervention. Regular screening of this population should also be performed for early diagnosis and management of dyslipidemia.

Summary: Increased vasoactive-inotropic score (VAS) is a reliable predictor of mortality and morbidity after cardiac surgery. In patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB), high VAS independently predicts morbidity and 1-year death. The association between VAS and adverse outcomes is mediated by lactate and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), with low PNI directly affecting the increased risk of death and adverse outcome.

Summary: The study found a high incidence rate of new-onset atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting, with advanced age, history of stroke, depression, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and intraoperative use of intra-aortic balloon pump identified as risk factors. Healthcare professionals should focus on assessing these risk factors in older adults with comorbidities during the perioperative period to promote quality nursing care. Prospective studies are needed to identify mechanisms connecting perioperative risk factors for atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery.

Summary: This study aimed to select variables associated with new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) following isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and develop a risk prediction nomogram. The nomogram, composed of eight prognostic variables, showed substantial discriminative ability and well-fitted calibration curves in both derivation and validation cohorts. Compared with established prediction models, the nomogram exhibited superior discrimination performance. The novel nomogram has potential clinical value in predicting the risk of POAF following isolated CABG.
