Summary: A systematic review was conducted to evaluate the best treatment for Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (SM) infections. The study found that fluoroquinolones (FQs) and possibly tetracycline derivatives (TDs) may be reasonable alternatives to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX). More clinical trial data is needed to inform therapeutic choices.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the clinico-laboratory findings of Malassezia folliculitis in Indonesia. The results showed that the clinical symptoms of Malassezia folliculitis are mainly characterized by pruritus and follicular papulopustular lesions on the trunk, with a high prevalence in the 17-25 years old age group. There is consistency between KOH and Wood's lamp examination in diagnosing MF.

Summary: The prevalence of gaming disorder was comparable with obsessive-compulsive disorder, emphasizing the importance of addressing Internet gaming disorder. Treatment interventions for children and adolescents mainly focus on cognitive-behavioral therapy and pharmaceutical intervention, with family support playing a significant role. More studies are needed to explore treatment interventions for children aged 8-12 years old.

Summary: This study reveals a high prevalence of Malassezia folliculitis (MF) in patients clinically diagnosed with acne vulgaris (AV). Patients diagnosed with MF are more likely to have itchy symptoms and higher risk of acneiform lesions on the scalp/hairline and upper back. Dermatologists should be aware of the possibility of MF when encountering AV patients with specific symptoms and lesions.

Summary: The presence and impact of marine litter in submarine canyons is still poorly understood and there are significant gaps in knowledge, particularly regarding the impact of macroplastics in deep-sea environments. There is a lack of standardization in study methodologies, including sampling techniques and classification protocols, which hinders the comparison and analysis of research findings. Furthermore, there is a need for more comprehensive reporting on the interactions between litter and the surrounding environment and biota. Overall, this study highlights the urgent need for standardized methodologies to fully understand and address the impact of marine litter in submarine canyons.

Summary: Blood transfusion can have complications in medical and surgical patients, and acute anemia during surgery can affect wound healing. Current transfusion threshold guidelines may not be applicable to spine surgery patients. A systematic review of published articles found that certain transfusion trigger thresholds were associated with better outcomes and fewer complications. It is recommended to avoid blood transfusion in adult spine surgery patients if hemoglobin levels remain within a certain range during and after surgery.

Summary: Malassezia yeasts are part of the skin mycobiota and can become opportunistic pathogens, causing various skin disorders. The interaction between the host skin and Malassezia spp. leads to the production of virulence factors or metabolites that contribute to the development of different clinical presentations of skin disorders.

Summary: This study aims to explore the definition of oligometastatic disease (OMD) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and the use of local consolidative treatment (LCT). The findings reveal a lack of consensus on the definition of OMD in PDAC, with significant variation between studies and methodological issues. This highlights the need for a consensus definition of OMD.

Summary: Despite advances in reproductive medicine, implantation failure remains a challenging condition affecting a significant percentage of IVF patients. Research has focused on identifying molecules and developing predictive tools for efficient detection of the implantation window. However, the clinical value of commercially available novel approaches in evaluating endometrial receptivity remains unclear. This study provides a systematic review and critical analysis of existing evidence, highlighting the heterogeneity of the implantation window and providing insights into technical aspects and potential biomarkers for future research.

Summary: Studies have shown that pristine MPs/NPs have significant effects on the biological functions and physiological systems of soil invertebrates, with different polymers causing varying impacts. Most research used earthworms and nematodes as model organisms, and the effects of MPs/NPs appeared to be concentration-dependent.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of Janus kinase inhibitors for alopecia areata, using change in Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score as the measure. A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines was conducted, including all studies investigating the efficacy of treatments for alopecia areata. A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was performed, and the findings suggest that baricitinib and deuruxolitinib show promising results for the treatment of alopecia areata, with response varying based on dosage.

Summary: This study validates the novel IHS4-55 outcome measure by showing its significant association with reduction in inflammatory lesion counts and achievement of MCIDs for DLQI, NRS Pain, and NRS Pruritus in an antibiotic-treated cohort. These findings support the use of IHS4-55 as a novel primary outcome measure in clinical trials.

Summary: Dandruff is a common scalp disorder with various microbial and host-related factors involved. Recent studies have identified specific biomarkers of dandruff-afflicted scalp, indicating the role of sebum lipoperoxidation in its onset and maintenance. The study provides evidence that the yeast Malassezia restricta mediates sebum peroxidation, leading to the production of certain compounds that affect epidermal cells and alter the skin barrier. These findings suggest that targeting the production of these lipoperoxidation products could be a potential treatment approach for dandruff.

Summary: Malassezia folliculitis occurs when the benign colonization of hair follicles by the yeast Malassezia becomes symptomatic, leading to itchy papules and pustules. However, diagnosing and treating this condition varies among dermatologists and countries. The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Mycology Task Force has developed recommendations to guide the diagnosis and management of Malassezia folliculitis, including diagnostic methods, required positive findings before treatment, and specific treatment algorithms for different patient groups. Overall, this study provides a clinical strategy for diagnosing and managing Malassezia folliculitis.

Summary: This study compared the health-related quality of life and stress levels between individuals with and without hyperhidrosis, hidradenitis suppurativa, or psoriasis during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings suggest that individuals with hyperhidrosis or hidradenitis suppurativa experienced worse mental or physical well-being, and individuals with hyperhidrosis also had higher stress levels during the pandemic compared to healthy individuals.

Summary: Our study aimed to develop an effective method for assessing the impact of basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) on a patient's appearance. Using computer image analysis, we explored various similarity metrics to predict perceptual similarity, including different color spaces and distances between features from a pretrained deep convolutional neural network. The results indicated that our proposed method provides a valid and reliable assessment tool, enabling more accurate and standardized evaluations of BCC tumors and post-treatment scars.
