Summary: The investigation revealed that the failure of a heavily cracked geothermal water convection tube was caused by stress corrosion cracking induced by chloride in the service environment and sensitization of the matrix. Additionally, residual stress arising from the manufacturing process also promoted the failure process.

Summary: Austenitic stainless steel 08Cr18Ni10Ti is widely used in WWER reactor and considered as a prospective material for supercritical water-cooled reactors. This study investigated the corrosion behavior of the steel in close proximity to the critical point of water and at high temperatures of supercritical water. The results showed the formation of a thin oxide layer in water close to the supercritical point, while localized corrosion was observed in high temperature supercritical water.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the water quality in Wadi El-Natrun for agricultural purposes and design an optimal desalination system. The results show that single-stage nanofiltration systems are the most cost-effective option, and reverse osmosis membranes produce higher-quality water compared to nanofiltration membranes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the desalination systems in 31 rural communities in the Brazilian semi-arid region and assess the potential of using brackish waters. The physical-chemical characteristics of groundwater and concentrate were analyzed to determine quality indexes for irrigation and animal watering. Most wells contained chlorinated sodium water with corrosive tendencies. Parameters such as conductivity, sulfate, and magnesium were linked to changes in water quality for animal watering. Chloride, sodium, and conductivity deviated the most from recommended limits for irrigation. While a majority of well waters and brackish waste were deemed unsuitable for plant cultivation, they were classified as excellent or good quality for animal production. With proper management and suitable technologies, it is possible to utilize brackish water and desalination by-products in the region.

Summary: The study experimentally investigated the correlation between microstructure and corrosion behavior of copper/316L stainless-steel dissimilar-metal welded joints on an electrolytic copper cathode plate. Phase separation in the weld metal led to different corrosion resistance in Fe-rich and Cu-rich zones, resulting in the formation of multiple galvanic corrosion couples. Strong galvanic corrosion between gamma and epsilon-Cu phases caused shedding of gamma phase particles from the surface, leading to corrosion pits and joint failure.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of using an integrated algal treatment process with a FO-RO membrane system to recover potable quality water from municipal wastewater effluent. The results of experiments conducted in different seasons and operating conditions showed that the system performed well in treating algal effluent and secondary effluent, achieving rejection rates of over 90% for major ions and organic matter.

Summary: The study compared the conventional SWRO desalination process with two contemporary low-pressure membrane desalination processes, finding that environmental impacts are highly dependent on the clean in place process in dilution desalination systems, while energy flow plays a significant role in standalone RO systems. Overall, the ODD process with FO-RO hybrid membrane technology had the highest environmental impact.

Summary: The study proposes a seasonal water storage tank to address the issues of expensive batteries and short lifespan in photovoltaic powered RO systems, leading to stable water supply at lower costs. Optimization of component capacities is crucial for achieving the lowest water cost. Results show that the optimal component capacity combinations are achieved with a designed operating time of 8 to 9 hours per day.

Summary: In this study, highly compacted hybrid coatings with water-dispersible graphene layers were successfully constructed to protect metallic bipolar plates from corrosion while maintaining excellent electrical conductivity. The electron transfer in the coatings facilitates the formation of galvanic cells, while the challenge is to block mass transfer during the corrosion process.
