Summary: Micro-photoreactor is a miniaturized photoreactor that combines the advantages of microfluidics with traditional photoreactors, allowing for efficient wastewater treatment. It requires small quantities of photocatalyst material and offers features like high surface to volume ratio and better control of reaction parameters. The thin layer of photocatalyst in the microreactor enables less photon loss and uniform light distribution, making it suitable for photocatalytic wastewater treatment applications.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of emerging pollutants on the growth of microalgae and seed germination. The results showed that Scenedesmus obliquus was able to grow in all mixtures of pollutants, while Spirulina platensis experienced cell death in mixtures containing paracetamol. The culture medium of microalgae had toxic effects on seed germination, but by choosing the right microalgae strain, it is possible to use them for bioremediation and reduce the negative effects on seed germination.

Summary: Ag2O was introduced to ZnS for the first time to form a novel ZnS/Ag2O composite photocatalyst, showing high catalytic activity in degrading methylene blue. The composite degraded 92.4% of methylene blue in 50 min, outperforming ZnS and Ag2O which only degraded 31.9% and 68.8% respectively. Enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the composite structure, facilitating carrier separation and extending light response range. The ZnS/Ag2O composite is promising for degrading organic pollutants in water.

Summary: Chiral organic pollutants, such as pharmaceuticals, pose significant risks to the environment and human health. Chiral pharmaceuticals, in particular, may have different distribution, fate, bioaccumulation potential, and toxicity due to their enantiomers. Enantioselective chromatographic techniques are commonly used to detect drug enantiomers. Bioremediation techniques offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the decomposition of organic pollutants.

Summary: A colorimetric fiber optic sensor was developed for determination of total and residual chlorine in water. The sensor detects values in the red, green, blue color space and converts them into a user-oriented hue, saturation, value color model. The repeatability and effectiveness of the sensor method for chlorine measurement in water were validated by comparing the results with standard chemical laboratory analysis. The sensor method showed potential for replacing expensive laboratory equipment due to its efficiency, low cost, simplicity, small size, and repeatability.
