Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of methanolic extract of P. longum against protoscolices of hydatid cyst in vitro, showing that 50 mg/ml concentration had the highest lethality. The IC50 value was found to be about 20 mg/ml after 60 minutes of exposure to PLM extract. Valuable findings were obtained for the first time about the scolicidal activity of P. longum, indicating the need for further studies in this field.

Summary: The study showed that the combination of coelomic fluid and gonad extract significantly reduced the number of protoscolices, and the scolicidal activity of coelomic extract increased over time at 100 mu l concentration. The immunomodulatory effect of coelomic + gonad and coelomic extracts significantly increased TNF alpha and IFN gamma expression, while decreasing IL-5 expression at concentrations of 30 mu g/ml and 100 mu g/ml.

Summary: We investigated the scolicidal effects of sanguinarine on hydatid cyst protoscoleces in vitro and in silico. Molecular docking revealed that acetylcholinesterase is a potential target for sanguinarine. Our results demonstrated that sanguinarine has potent scolicidal effects and could be a promising therapeutic agent for treating cystic echinococcosis. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This research focuses on the migration of silver and copper nanoparticles from packaging to food matrix using various analytical techniques, where inductively coupled plasma-based techniques showed the best results. The studies on Ag/Cu nanoparticles migration may vary, but generally agree on higher migration in acidic environments. Understanding the toxic effects of nanoparticles is crucial for developing food packaging coatings.

Summary: By optimally embedding silica nanoparticles on the surface of silver nanowires, epoxy/silver nanowire nanocomposites with excellent dispersibility and electrical conductivity were prepared. Improved electrical properties were achieved due to superb dispersion, enhanced by interfacial interactions between the epoxy matrix and SNP-AgNWs. The nanocomposites with tailored surface modification showed superior results compared to those with untreated and highly treated surfaces.

Summary: The increasing application of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) raises concerns among ecologists and health specialists due to their release into the environment. This paper focuses on the interference of silver with copper metabolism, the potential health effects, and the risk of low silver concentrations to humans. The chemical properties of AgNPs are discussed in relation to their release in mammals, and the potential use of silver in treating severe diseases is addressed based on its impact on copper status.

Summary: Materials with hydrophobic and visible-light-driven photolytic properties have wide applications. We synthesized hybrid nanoparticles by decorating ultrasmall silver oxide nanoparticles onto the surface of superhydrophobic silica nanoparticles, which showed strong photolytic activity in the presence of visible light and superhydrophobic behavior on various substrates. These nanoparticles have potential for pollutant removal and can be used for self-cleaning and water-oil separation.

Summary: Fighting the formation of bacterial biofilm and providing a bioactive environment for bone regeneration is a significant challenge in surgery. Bioactive glasses doped with silver (Ag) or copper (Cu) ions offer a potential non-antibiotic solution. This study evaluates the cytocompatibility of Ag and Cu-doped bioactive glasses and finds that fibronectin adsorption improves the cytocompatibility of Ag-doped glass.

Summary: The global spread of COVID-19 has led to increased interest in studying the genomic variations of the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus. Analysis of metadata from over 400,000 SARS-CoV-2 genomes revealed differences in distribution of genomic clades based on geographic locations, age groups, and genders. Over time, there has been an expansion of clades with D614G mutations, with the newest clade GV becoming predominant in the last three months. These findings highlight the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and its impact on infectivity, virulence, and mortality.
