The treatment efficiency and bacterial diversity caused by chlortetracycline (CTC) and oxytetracycline (OTC) in anaerobic digestion treatment of real piggery wastewater were studied by polymerase chain reaction - denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) and real-time PCR. The COD removal efficiency and methane production were inhibited with the increasing concentration of CTC and OTC. The antagonism of CTC and OTC on methane production was observed, the inhibition rate was expanded to 55.46% from 18.34%; antagonism and enhancement were observed on inhibition rate of COD removal efficiency, and the inhibition rate was expanded to 24.84% from 4.16%. The bacterial diversity and similarities of each group were decreased with the increasing concentration of CTC and OTC. The identified species Thermotogae bacterium, Bacteroidetes bacterium, Chloroflexi bacterium, Eubacterium, Mesophilic bacterium, etc. were beneficial for COD removal and biodegradation of CTC and OTC. The quantitative fluorescence analysis was opposite to the rule of bacterial diversity by real-time PCR. (C) 2020 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparative analysis of the genetic diversity of the neutral microsatellite loci and second exon of the goat MHC-DQB1 gene

Ying Gong, Yi Guo, Yong-Meng He, Ying Yuan, Bai-Gao Yang, Xing-Hai Duan, Cheng-Li Liu, Jia-Hua Zhang, Qiong-Hua Hong, Yue-Hui Ma, Ri-Su Na, Yan-Guo Han, Yan Zeng, Yong-Fu Huang, Yong-Ju Zhao, Zhong-Quan Zhao, E. Guangxin

Summary: This study compared and analyzed the genetic diversity and population structure of the MHC-DQB1 gene exon 2 and 13 autosomal neutral microsatellite markers in 14 Chinese goat breeds, exploring the potential evolutionary mechanism of the MHC. The results showed that positive and balancing selection played a major role in maintaining the genetic diversity of DQB, and trans-species polymorphism of MHC in bovines was common.

Phylotranscriptomic analyses reveal multiple whole-genome duplication events, the history of diversification and adaptations in the Araceae

Summary: This study improves our understanding of aroid phylogeny by using a large number of nuclear genes. In contrast to the Proto-Araceae group and the lemnoid clade's adaptation to aquatic environments, the results suggest that whole-genome duplication may play a more important role in the evolution of adaptations to tropical, terrestrial environments in the True-Araceae clade.

Barriers and Facilitators of Adherence to Oral Nutritional Supplements Among People Living With Cancer: A Systematic Review

Qiu-Chen Wang, Hua Yuan, Zhi-Ming Chen, Jia Wang, Hui Xue, Xiu-Ying Zhang

Summary: This study synthesized the barriers and facilitators of oral nutritional supplement adherence in people with cancer and assessed levels of adherence. The findings showed that gastrointestinal intolerances and disliked tastes were common barriers to adherence, while the management strategy of nutritional supplements was identified as the most crucial facilitator of adherence.

A physical model on the flame structure of vertical downward turbulent jet fires

Hongyu Lu, Shixiang Liu, Jiang Lv, Xin Li, Michael A. Delichatsios, Longhua Hu

Summary: This work investigates the flame geometrical characteristics of vertical downward turbulent jet fires in still air. The study proposes a new physical model and conducts CFD simulation to show the combustion structure. The research reveals the inner flow field and average mixture fraction of a downward jet fire and validates the CFD result with experimental data. It also discusses the differences between downward, upward, and horizontal jet fires and presents a physical model considering the initial downward momentum, flame buoyancy, and air entrainment.

Transcriptomic and functional characterization reveals CsHAK5;3 as a key player in K plus homeostasis in grafted cucumbers under saline conditions

Yuquan Peng, Haishun Cao, Zhaowen Peng, Lijian Zhou, Hamza Sohail, Lvjun Cui, Li Yang, Yuan Huang, Zhilong Bie

Summary: Grafting with pumpkin rootstock can enhance salt tolerance in cucumber scions by decreasing Na+ content and increasing K+ content. The key genes involved in salt stress tolerance were found to be ion transport-related genes. CsHAK5;3, a pumpkin gene, was identified as a key target gene that improves salt tolerance in grafted cucumber.

Summary: The transverse-momentum spectra and coalescence parameters of (anti)deuterons in p-p collisions at 13 TeV have been measured for the first time. The results show that the coalescence parameter in the jet is approximately 10 times larger than that in the underlying event. This observation is consistent with the coalescence picture and can be attributed to the smaller phase-space distance between nucleons in the jet cone. Both a nucleon coalescence model and a deuteron production model reproduce the observed difference between in-jet and out-of-jet coalescence parameters.

Rui Qian, Xuan Yi, Teng Liu, Hua Chen, Yuhong Wang, Lin Hu, Lingchuan Guo, Kai Yang, Haijun Deng

Summary: In this study, the ion content inside and outside tumor cells was regulated using cationic acidic nanoparticles and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, enhancing the efficacy of tumor radio-immunotherapy. This method can improve the sensitivity of tumors to radiotherapy through various pathways and enhance the anti-tumor response of the immune system.
