This study developed a method for accurate analysis of dimethomorph and evaluated its uptake, dissipation, and residues in potato through foliar spray. The results showed that dimethomorph was translocated to the tubers within a few days and had relatively short half-lives in potato leaves, tubers, and soil. The risk assessment indicated that the recommended minimum dosages of dimethomorph posed little risk for consumption of potato tubers.
Late blight is a potentially devastating disease of potato. Dimethomorph has been widely used for preventing and controlling this disease. However, there is little information on dimethomorph residue in potato and the production soil. To address this issue, the present study developed a method for accurate analysis of dimethomorph using high-performance liquid chromatography. A linearity that had a determination coefficient of 0.9998 was established based on dimethomorph concentrations from 0.05 to 10.0 mg/L. The recovery rates ranged from 76.61% to 109.11%. The limit of detection and the limit of quantification were 0.02 mg/kg and 0.05 mg/kg, respectively. Potato production experiments were then carried out in three provinces of China, and dimethomorph was applied through a foliar spray. The established method was used for analysing the uptake, dissipation, and residues of dimethomorph in potato leaves and tubers and also in soils. Results showed that foliar spray of dimethomorph was translocated to tubers and generally within 2 days. The half-lives of dimethomorph in potato leaves, tubers, and soil ranged from 2.65 to 4.20, 1.79 to 3.71, and 4.62 to 9.0 days, respectively. The risk assessment of dietary exposure showed that all of the risk index values and the hazard quotient were less than 100%, indicating that foliar spray of dimethomorph on potato at 1.5 times the recommended minimum dosages poses little risk for consumption of the tubers in the three provinces of China.

Summary: An anti-adhesive barrier membrane incorporating hyaluronic acid can prevent fibroblasts attachment and provide lubrication for tendon gliding, while platelet-rich plasma can release growth factors to facilitate tendon recovery and suppress inflammation. In this study, core-shell nanofiber membranes with HA/PRP-infused core and polycaprolactone shell were fabricated and evaluated. The results showed that the membranes could prevent cell penetration, reduce cell attachment, and promote tendon healing in vitro, and the HP11-P NFM exhibited improved efficacy in reducing tendon adhesion and inflammation and promoting tendon healing in vivo.

Summary: Azadirachtin impacts the growth and molting process of insects, causing developmental delays and affecting their survival. This study investigated how azadirachtin affects the growth and intestinal microbiota of adult Harmonia axyridis after feeding on azadirachtin-treated larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda. The results showed that azadirachtin destroyed the intestinal structure, affected the insect intestinal environment, and inhibited the growth and development of H. axyridis. This study enriches the knowledge of the H. axyridis intestinal microbial community and provides guidance for improving the control effect of S. frugiperda.

Summary: Control of the invasive pest Spodoptera frugiperda heavily relies on foliar spray with insecticides, which may sometimes be ineffective due to bouncing droplets and hidden larvae. This study formulated three emulsifiable concentrates (CECs) with different oils and evaluated their adhesion properties and control efficiency compared to a standard suspension concentrate (SC). The results showed that CECs improved adhesion and were more effective in reducing S. frugiperda larvae in corn plants.

Evaluation of Substrate Stratification, Fertilizer Placement, and Mulching on Growth of Common Nursery Weed Species and Container-Grown Ornamental Species

Yuvraj Khamare, Stephen C. Marble, Brian J. Pearson, Jianjun Chen, Pratap Devkota

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of topdressing or incorporating fertilizer with stratified or mulched substrates on the growth of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Snow Queen', liverwort (Marchantia polymorpha), and bittercress (Cardamine flexuosa). Five different substrate treatments were evaluated, and bittercress control was highest in mulched containers. Stratification treatments decreased liverwort coverage compared to the industry standard treatment, but topdressing generally increased liverwort coverage. Both topdressing and incorporation are compatible with fertilizer placement, but weed growth may increase with topdressing.
