Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is being studied and utilized for various medical conditions including Clostridium difficile colitis, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), obesity, myasthenia gravis, and so on. Yet, FMT donation, whether from an individual or a stool bank, can be challenging given the numerous requirements and donor costs. Furthermore, data outcomes on recipients of FMT regarding donor's health comorbidities, age, and weight are limited but emerging. The purpose of this review is to evaluate cost, safety, and accessibility in FMT donation.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease (NAFPD) is a relatively new and emerging disease that is associated with metabolic syndrome and obesity. While the definitive treatment is not yet established, weight loss is the primary approach. Further research is needed to explore the pathophysiology, clinical impact, and management of NAFPD.

Mohamad Yousef, Harleen Chela, Hamza Ertugrul, Abdulmajeed Albarrak, Omer Basar, Syed Pasha, Yousef Mousa, Alhareth Al Juboori, Shellaine Frazier, Veysel Tahan, Ebubekir Daglilar

Summary: Background: Lymphocytic esophagitis (LE) is a poorly understood clinical finding that has been increasingly identified in the last decade. Previous studies proposed increased frequency of LE in elderly females, as well as associations with smoking and pediatric Crohn's disease. Objective: This study aimed to determine the patient characteristics and clinical features of adult LE patients and describe the association between LE and cancer. However, no cases of malignant transformation have been reported in those with underlying lymphocytic esophagitis.

Are Drugs Associated with Microscopic Colitis? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Zahid Ijaz Tarar, Umer Farooq, Mustafa Gandhi, Faisal Kamal, Moosa Feroze Tarar, Veysel Tahan, Harleen Kaur Chela, Ebubekir Daglilar

Summary: There is increasing evidence of the association between Microscopic Colitis (MC) and the use of certain medications such as PPIs, SSRIs, NSAIDs, Statins, and H2RA. A study was conducted to calculate the pooled odds of MC in patients using these drugs. Thirteen studies with a total of 304,482 patients were included in the analysis. The results showed higher odds of MC in patients taking PPIs, SSRIs, NSAIDs, and Statins compared to the control group, but no difference in odds of MC in patients using H2RA.

A Case of Light Chain Deposition Disease Leading to Acute Liver Failure and Review of Literature

Mustafa Gandhi, Syed Bilal Pasha, Emily Reznicek, Syed Raheel Pasha, Hamza Ertugrul, Adel Araslanova, Feng Yin, Veysel Tahan

Summary: Light chain deposition disease (LCDD) is a rare monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease that primarily affects the kidney but can also involve the liver and heart. This article presents a case of an 83-year-old woman with hepatic LCDD and highlights the challenges in timely diagnosis and treatment due to the rarity of the condition and limited data. The prognosis for liver failure in LCDD is poor, and while chemotherapy options are available, their success rates vary. The low prevalence of the condition makes further clinical trials difficult.

Human Papillomavirus Infection and Oropharyngeal and Gastrointestinal Cancers: A Causal Relationship?

Zeynep Deniz, Suleyman Uraz, Ryan Holem, Resat Ozaras, Veysel Tahan

Summary: The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection with a 50% lifetime risk of infection for both men and women. While most infections resolve within 2 years, 10% of individuals develop persistent infections and have an increased risk of developing cancer. HPV is well established to be associated with genital cancer and may also be associated with gastrointestinal cancers.
