Summary: A fast, simple, sensitive and stable turn-on fluorescent probe method was developed using the self-assembly of aggregation-induced emission luminogen 1,1,2,2-tetra(biphenyl-4-yl)ethene and cucurbit[7]uril for the selective determination of metformin. The host-guest complex improves the water solubility of traditional aggregation-induced emission material. The method shows good sensitivity and accuracy for metformin detection with a linear correlation between relative fluorescence intensity and metformin concentration in the range of 5 to 100 μM.

Summary: Water-soluble fluorescent molecules were designed and synthesized using Tetraphenylethene (TPE) and pyrene as typical aggregation induced emission (AIE) and aggregation caused emission quenching (ACQ) functional groups. Through self-assembly with cucurbituril hosts, opposite fluorescence responses were observed for TPE and pyrene based fluorescent molecules. The assembly processes were verified by 1H NMR, UV?Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and the mechanism of aggregation-induced fluorescence change was studied. These new host-guest supramolecular fluorescence systems can be utilized as fluorescence sensors or switches in biological imaging.

Summary: This study reports the design and synthesis of three new small molecular NIR-II dyes with large stokes shifts. The dyes exhibit enhanced fluorescence emission intensity upon self-assembly with CB, but this fluorescence can be quenched by the addition of rCDots, allowing for flexibility in photoluminescence tuning. The aqueous dispersibility, cellular and blood compatibility, and NIR-II bioimaging capability of the inclusion complexes are also explored.

Summary: A new strategy of activatable host-guest conjugate with self-inclusion property is proposed for supramolecular chemotherapy, which can achieve high-efficiency drug release triggered by intramolecular host-guest self-inclusion. The encapsulation of oxaliplatin in the conjugate leads to the formation of a stable supramolecular drug, and the release of oxaliplatin in the tumor microenvironment shows comparable anti-tumor bioactivity to naked oxaliplatin. This research may open new horizons for programmable and on-demand supramolecular chemotherapy with high anti-tumor efficiency.

Summary: Doped carbon materials, especially F-doped carbon catalysts, have gained significant attention as metal-free catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions and as corrosion-resistant supports for Pt and non-Pt nanoparticles. F-doped carbon materials possess unique properties and greatly improve the activity and durability of the ORR compared to N-doped carbon materials. The high electronegativity of F-doping can efficiently modify the electronic band structure of carbon materials, favoring the ORR. This review systematically discusses the effect of F-doping/F co-doping on the electrocatalytic reduction of O2 in acidic and alkaline conditions, the stability and durability of fuel cell catalysts, and provides guidelines for working with F-doped carbons. Future research directions on F-doped carbons are also proposed to bridge the gap between laboratory-scale assessments and commercial applications.
