Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is commonly used to manufacture new hot mix asphalt (HMA). The objective of this study is to determine the variability of RAP properties obtained from different projects or sources. To meet this objective, the original particle size distribution of the RAPs, as well as different basic and rheological properties of the recovered binders were quantified. Additionally, in order to assess the differences among the RAP materials and not only of their components (i.e., recovered asphalt and gradation), the rheological properties, mechanical performance and moisture damage susceptibility of fine aggregate matrix (FAM) manufactured using the fine fraction of the different RAP sources (FAM-RAP mixtures) were also evaluated. The results show that there is significant variability in the mechanical response and performance of the evaluated RAPs, suggesting the necessity for considering this aspect when fabricating HMA with RAP obtained from different sources.
