Summary: Chronic inflammation is associated with the development of carcinogenesis in the digestive organs. This review focuses on chronic hepatitis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic gastritis, which are conditions that predispose individuals to malignancy. The mechanisms by which chronic inflammation can cause malignancy are discussed.

Summary: Anxiety and depression play a mediating role in the relationship between gastrointestinal conditions and oral health in orthodontic patients. In particular, anxiety has a significant mediating effect. Future clinical practices and monitoring should pay more attention to the psychological status of patients.

Summary: Sex differences exist in nutrient metabolism and hormone regulation in the gastrointestinal tract, possibly influenced by nuclear receptors. Some nuclear receptors show different activity and target gene expression between males and females, potentially affecting overall metabolic decisions.

Summary: Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is underdiagnosed in Australia due to a lack of trained clinicians and diagnostic services. This project aimed to increase FASD knowledge and diagnostic capacity nationwide through training clinics, diagnostic clinics, and community education sessions. The project led to a significant increase in FASD diagnoses and positive feedback from community education sessions. Participants in the training clinics showed increased knowledge and confidence in FASD diagnosis. This evaluation highlights the benefits of a coordinated approach to FASD prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and training.

Summary: This study provides the first report on the digestive tract pH of the pygmy octopus. The pH of the digestive tract regions was found to be lower than 7.0 and did not differ significantly between wild and captive octopuses. The digestive gland had the lowest pH values, but they were still above 5.0.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common malignancy and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Wireless capsule endoscopy is the most frequent method for detecting precancerous digestive diseases. Scientists have proposed computational techniques to automatically segment anomalies from endoscopic images, addressing the time-consuming and tedious manual examination for doctors.

Summary: The rate of acid-base-catalyzed dehydration of alcohols depends strongly on the solvent and the environment of the acid sites. Brønsted acidic sites in large-pore zeolites catalyze cyclohexanol dehydration at significantly higher rates than hydrated hydronium ions in aqueous phase. The difference in turnover rates between the two solvents is much larger in large-pore zeolites compared to medium-pore zeolites. Additionally, the mechanism of cyclohexanol dehydration varies depending on the zeolite structure, with E1 elimination being dominant except for a monomer dehydration route on H-MFI which follows an E2-type mechanism.

Summary: Education and occupational prestige were inversely associated with MetS, while income was not related. Health behaviors played a partial role in explaining these associations, with smoking and physical activity being the key factors. Individuals with higher SEP had a lower risk of MetS mainly due to non-smoking, less excessive alcohol intake, and better diet quality, despite being less physically active.

Summary: The study showed that the current in vitro model does not sufficiently mimic the in vivo situation in birds to evaluate the bioefficacy of phytase products under real conditions. However, it can be used as a complementary tool in the pre-selection of promising phytase candidates to reduce the number of feeding trials in the initial screening phase.

Summary: This paper analyzes the impact of repeated improper treatment on bridge site slopes and proposes solutions based on long-term field monitoring data. The results show that the destruction of the bridge is mainly attributed to the deformation of the landslide and the sliding force induced by natural rainfall. By adding antislide piles, increasing the cross-sectional area of the bridge pier foundation, and installing drainage pipes, the safety of the bridge is effectively guaranteed.

Summary: This study investigated the difficulty in removing totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) and identified associated risk factors. Interventional radiology (IR) approaches for difficult removal were also explored. The results showed that indwelling duration and subcutaneous leakage of fluid were significant risk factors for difficult removal. IR techniques were found to be minimally invasive and useful in some cases.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and head and neck cancer risk factors in less developed and more developed countries. The results showed that the duration of smoking and alcohol consumption had different effects on the risk of specific cancer sites depending on the country's level of development. These findings suggest that the degree of industrialization and economic development affects the relationship between smoking, alcohol, and head and neck cancer.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of ablative margin depicted by CT immediately after RF ablation on reducing LTP for CRC lung metastases. A retrospective study was conducted on 70 patients who underwent RF ablation for CRC lung metastases. The results indicated that an ablative margin of at least 2 mm is important to reduce LTP after RF ablation for CRC lung metastases.

Summary: The effects of macular intraretinal hemorrhage (IRH) and macular hole (MH) on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after displacement of submacular hemorrhage (SMH) due to retinal arterial macroaneurysm (RAM) rupture were compared in this study. The results showed that patients with IRH and MH had worse BCVA postoperatively, lower central retinal thickness, and discontinuity in the external limiting membrane and ellipsoid zone. Both IRH(+)MH(+) and IRH(+)MH(-) were associated with postoperative BCVA.

Summary: Rare germline pathogenic variants in cancer-predisposing genes have a significant impact on clinical practice. Existing personalized medicine approaches based on European populations may not fully apply to other populations, as we discovered differences in associations between cancer-predisposing genes and diseases in the Japanese population. Our research highlights the importance of population and region-specific studies for improved personalized medicine and a better understanding of disease mechanisms.

Summary: Alcohol is metabolized to acetaldehyde and acetate through the actions of alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase. The ADH1B rs1229984 polymorphism is associated with drinking habits and the risk of esophageal cancer.
