Are family medicine residents trained to counsel patients on physical activity? The Canadian experience and a call to action

Jane Thornton, Karim Khan, Richard Weiler, Christopher Mackie, Robert Petrella

Summary: Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases and early mortality. However, there is a lack of training on physical activity counseling in undergraduate medical education and postgraduate family medicine residency programs in Canada. The provision of structured physical activity counseling education to residents is limited, and there are no immediate plans to change the content or amount of teaching. There is a significant gap between the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the current curricular content and needs of family medicine residents. Developing online educational resources for physical activity prescription would be beneficial, according to most program directors.

Injury incidence rates in women's football: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective injury surveillance studies

Dan Horan, Fionn Buttner, Catherine Blake, Martin Hagglund, Seamus Kelly, Eamonn Delahunt

Summary: This study aimed to review the literature and establish overall, match, and training injury incidence rates (IIRs) in senior women's football. The study found that the 'time-loss' match and training IIRs are similar between senior women's elite club football and international football, while the training IIRs are approximately 6-7 times lower than the match IIRs. Lower limb injuries are a substantial problem in senior women's football.

Salt-Assisted Low-Temperature Growth of 2D Bi2O2Se with Controlled Thickness for Electronics

Usman Khan, Adeela Nairan, Karim Khan, Sean Li, Bilu Liu, Junkuo Gao

Summary: A low-temperature salt-assisted chemical vapor deposition method was used to grow single-domain Bi2O2Se on a millimeter scale with multilayer to monolayer thickness. The layer-dependent Raman spectroscopy of Bi2O2Se was systematically investigated, showing a redshift of the A(1g) mode at 162.4 cm(-1). The environmental stability of approximately 2.4 nm thick Bi2O2Se was confirmed after exposure to air for 1.5 years. The backgated field effect transistor based on a few-layered Bi2O2Se exhibited decent carrier mobility (approximately 287 cm(2) V(-1)s(-1)) and an ON/OFF ratio of up to 10(7), indicating a technique for growing large-domain thickness controlled Bi2O2Se single crystals for electronics.

Tellurium/polymers for flexible thermoelectrics: status and challenges

Linghua Jin, Yabin Hao, Ayesha Khan Tareen, Karim Khan, Swelm Wageh, Omar A. Al-Hartomy, Abdullah G. Al-Sehemi, Han Zhang, Ye Zhang

Summary: As the heaviest chalcogen atom, tellurium (Te) has high thermoelectric properties and has been extensively studied as an ideal thermoelectric element. However, the instability and mechanical endurance of Te thermoelectric modules in flexible electronic devices are a concern. A recent strategy of combining nanostructured Te with flexible polymers has been developed to address these issues, providing a promising approach for constructing stable and efficient thermoelectric generators.
