Summary: This study compares the long-term outcomes and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of patients undergoing surgery for infective native valve endocarditis (NVE) and prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). The results show significant differences in various domains of HRQOL between NVE and PVE patients, as well as in comparison to healthy individuals.

Summary: The article presents a case-based narrative review of Enterococcus faecalis double valve endocarditis involving both the aortic native and prosthetic mitral valve, discussing its clinical characteristics, treatment, and complications. It highlights the rarity of simultaneous double valve or multivalvular involvement in infective endocarditis.

Summary: Infective Endocarditis (IE) is a rare but highly associated illness in the emergency department (ED). Patients with IE often have risk factors that make them susceptible to bacterial invasion. Diagnosis involves multiple blood cultures and echocardiography, with treatment typically including prolonged intravenous antibiotics and potential surgery. Complications of IE can be severe, necessitating prompt identification and treatment to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Summary: The study found that patients with IPVE were older with higher surgical risk and lower risk of preoperative embolism, but higher risk of postoperative complications. Patients with INVE were more likely to have cerebral embolism and neurological deficits, with surgeries commonly performed as emergencies. Overall, IPVE patients were more likely to have intracardiac abscesses preoperatively and require pacemaker implantation postoperatively.

Summary: This study utilized population-based data to assess trends in hospitalization for CIED-IE and compare outcomes with PVE and NVE patients. The study found an increasing hospitalization rate for CIED-IE, but decreasing mortality rate and length of stay. Patients with CIED-IE had lower in-hospital mortality compared to PVE and NVE patients, but had the longest length of stay and highest hospital costs.

Summary: This article presents a case of an immunocompetent 74-year-old man affected by Trichosporon ashaii endocarditis of the prosthetic aortic valve. The patient was successfully treated and remained recurrence-free after 5 years of follow-up, highlighting the importance of timely treatment and individualized prophylactic therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the clinical profile at admission of patients with left-sided native valve infective endocarditis in a contemporary wide series of patients and to compare them among the most frequent etiologies. The study found that the etiology of infective endocarditis was closely associated with the modes of presentation and the clinical picture at admission.

Summary: This study presents clinical and morphologic findings in patients who underwent aortic valve replacement for active infective endocarditis limited to the aortic valve. The results reveal that infective endocarditis in tricuspid aortic valves leads to significant regurgitation, while congenital bicuspid valves patients showed calcification and stenosis prior to the infection.

Summary: The study shows that patients with native-valve infective endocarditis undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement have increased risks of death, ischemic stroke, and early major bleeding compared to matched patients without endocarditis. It emphasizes the importance of proactive prevention of complications such as stroke and bleeding in these patients post-operation.

Summary: Stroke is a common and potentially disabling complication of infective endocarditis (IE). This study aimed to determine the incidence, risk factors, clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients with definite IE after TAVR complicated by stroke during index IE hospitalization. Analysis of data from the Infectious Endocarditis after TAVR International Registry revealed that 10% of patients had a stroke during IE hospitalization, with higher rates of complications and mortality in stroke patients. Various factors like previous stroke history, residual aortic regurgitation, and valve type were associated with an increased risk of stroke, and surgical treatment did not improve outcomes for these patients.

Summary: Neisseria is a genus of bacteria that colonize mucosal tracts of animals. Neisseria elongata, unlike other species, is a Gram-negative rod instead of diplococci. It is difficult to identify due to its unique characteristics of being catalase-negative and Superoxol-negative. Despite being considered a commensal, it has been increasingly identified as a cause of significant diseases, including endocarditis. This article presents a case report and literature review of N. elongata causing prosthetic valve endocarditis.
