Summary: Anesthetic gases have the potential to cause long-term effects on anesthesia providers. This study investigated the association between gas exposure and self-reported symptoms in a sample of 463 providers. The results showed that increased frequency of smelling anesthetic gas was linked to higher rates of headaches and fatigue. Despite efforts to reduce exposure, concerns about possible long-term effects remain.

Summary: Brachytherapy is a technique that involves the direct application of radioactive sources to the tumor. It delivers a high dose of radiation to the target area while sparing healthy tissues. Currently, brachytherapy is mainly used in the postoperative setting for better dose conformity and quality of life compared to external beam radiation therapy. It yields excellent results for lip carcinoma in older patients and tumors with unfavorable localizations.

Summary: Research findings on the comparison between volatile anesthetic and total intravenous anesthesia for improved outcomes after cardiac surgery are inconsistent. The choice between the two techniques depends on provider and institutional preference and can be used safely in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Various factors such as timing, duration, dosing, and type of volatile anesthetic, as well as surgical and patient-related factors, may have influenced the results.

Summary: Bronchoscopic interventions and airway management for bronchoscopy are high-risk procedures for healthcare workers, as they expose them to COVID-19-containing droplets. Perioperative changes can be made to anesthetic management to reduce the spread of the virus.

Summary: The study found that xenon has a slowing effect on Aβ aggregation, as well as positive impacts on LTP and spine density. Isoflurane and sevoflurane did not exacerbate the AD pathology caused by Aβ, but they did impact neuronal activity in vitro.

Summary: Although no consensus has been reached for the treatment of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), standard chemotherapy and allogeneic transplantation remain effective treatments. However, relapses and resistance development are common. New targeted therapies offer promising options. This article discusses current treatment methods and explores future management approaches for BPDCN.

Summary: This study reviewed the dosing and toxicity characteristics of paravertebral and transversus abdominis plane catheters in pediatric patients. The study found that bolus doses of bupivacaine and ropivacaine in pediatric patients often comply with expert recommendations. However, doses used in children under 6 months were associated with toxicity, and the rate of toxicity was consistent with single-shot blocks. Specific recommendations for ropivacaine and bupivacaine dosing, including age-based dosing, breakthrough dosing, and intermittent bolus dosing, would benefit pediatric patients.

Summary: This study reviewed the literature on the dosing and toxicity of local anesthetic agents in paravertebral and transversus abdominis plane catheters. It was found that practitioners frequently exceed the recommended doses of ropivacaine and bupivacaine, which is associated with toxicity. Therefore, more specific recommendations are needed to limit excessive dosing and the risk of toxicity.
