A serial of ordered meso-macroporous phosphotungstic acid (HPW) supported on SiO2 nanocomposites were successfully prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method, using monodispersed polystyrene (PS) microspheres and cationic surfactant as structure directing agent. These nanocomposites were used as catalysts for oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of model fuel. The materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N-2 adsorption-desorption isothrem, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR). The characterization results suggested that the as-prepared material possessed ordered meso-macroporous architectures with Keggin type phosphotungstic acid dispersed homogeneously in SiO2 matrix. Under the selected reaction conditions, dibenzothiophene (DBT) in model fuel can be removed within 2 h at room temperature (30 degrees C). In addition, only 1.2% of efficiency lose than the fresh catalyst even after 5 cycles.

Response of thermal and fast-ion transport to beam ion population, rotation and Te/Ti in the DIII-D steady state hybrid scenario

K. E. Thome, X. D. Du, B. A. Grierson, G. J. Kramer, C. C. Petty, C. Holland, M. Knolker, G. R. McKee, J. McClenaghan, D. C. Pace, T. L. Rhodes, S. P. Smith, C. Sung, F. Turco, M. A. Van Zeeland, L. Zeng, Y. B. Zhu

Summary: The study investigates the thermal and fast-ion transport properties of steady-state hybrid discharges in DIII-D, showing changes in transport levels with adjustments in torque/rotation and Te/Ti ratios. Various instabilities, such as high-k modes and fishbones, are observed to influence the fast-ion transport and turbulence in these plasmas, providing insights for potential application in fusion reactors.

Summary: Novel disruption prevention solutions, including real-time control algorithms, limited topology transitions during emergency shutdown, and emergency shutdown methods, have been developed and tested. These methods have successfully prevented vertical displacement events, improved the disruption risk during emergency shutdown after large tearing and locked modes, and developed a method to excite instabilities to form a warm, helical core post-thermal quench to avoid VDEs and runaway electron generation.

Summary: DIII-D physics research addresses critical challenges for the operation of ITER and the next generation of fusion energy devices by focusing on innovations for high performance long pulse operation and fundamental plasma physics understanding. The research has led to substantial improvements in off-axis current drive efficiency and Alfven eigenmode control, as well as validated models for pedestal recovery after ELMs and disruption mitigation techniques. The findings provide confidence in optimizing future tokamak operation and handling disruptivity.

Summary: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a major public health concern globally, with unique genetic diversity in China. The genetic composition of E. granulosus s.l. in China is mainly G1 and G3, with G1 being the most common genotype, predominantly found in sheep and yaks. Surveillance and research on other potential host species, such as pigs, cattle, goats, and camels, have been largely overlooked in China.

Summary: An imaging neutral particle analyzer (INPA) was used to diagnose fast-ion flow driven by multiple marginally unstable Alfv ’en eigenmodes (AEs) in the DIII-D tokamak. Traditional energetic particle diffusivity modeling failed to interpret the observed fast ion depletion, while self-consistent multi-phase hybrid simulations were able to reproduce most features of the observed phase-space flow.

Mode structure measurements of ion cyclotron emission and sub-cyclotron modes on DIII-D

G. H. DeGrandchamp, J. B. Lestz, M. A. Van Zeeland, X. D. Du, W. W. Heidbrink, K. E. Thome, N. A. Crocker, R. Pinsker

Summary: This study reports on mode structure measurements of coherent ion cyclotron emission (ICE) and sub-cyclotron modes on the DIII-D device. In L-mode plasmas, resonant peaks at harmonics of the ion cyclotron frequency were observed in the core of the plasma. Sub-cyclotron modes were also observed in L-mode plasmas when the toroidal magnetic field strength was lowered. In H-mode plasmas, ICE harmonics localized to the plasma edge were observed. Polarization estimates indicate compressional polarization at the plasma edge for both ICE and sub-cyclotron modes. The same harmonics were observed on both the centerpost and outer wall loops, indicating poloidal extension of ICE. Toroidal mode numbers were calculated for both core ICE and sub-cyclotron modes in L-mode plasmas.

Energetic particle-induced geodesic acoustic modes on DIII-D

Summary: This study explores various properties of the energetic particle-induced geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) using a large database analysis of DIII-D experimental data. The analysis reveals that EGAMs are most easily destabilized by counter plasma current beams and the mode frequency has a strong linear dependence on the safety factor. The stability of the mode is found to depend more on damping rate than on fast-ion drive.

Summary: The dependencies of Alfvenic instabilities driven by runaway electrons (REs) during current quench in DIII-D on plasma and material injection parameters were investigated. The observed instabilities in the frequency range of 0.1-3 MHz are correlated with increased RE loss and may play a role in non-sustained RE beams.

Summary: Transport of fast ions in plasma is studied at different regimes below, near, and above the Alfvén eigenmode stability threshold. Below the threshold, fast ions are well-confined without noticeable transport. Near the threshold, fast ions exhibit transport through AE-driven flow along streamlines. Above the threshold, fast ions show strong critical gradient behavior with prompt transport along streamlines.
