Summary: The chondrogenic efficacy of aloe vera blended collagen-chitosan (COL-CS-AV) porous scaffold was investigated using articular chondrocytes. The scaffold showed higher chondrogenic efficacy compared to COL-CS, making it a suitable candidate for cartilage tissue engineering. The study utilized various assays and staining techniques to analyze cytocompatibility, GAG content, RNA content, and expression of cartilage-specific genes and collagen type II.

Summary: Dental pulp regeneration uses stem cells, scaffolds, and growth factors in tissue engineering. Collagen is commonly used as a biomaterial scaffold due to its compatibility and similarity to natural extracellular matrix. Adding biomolecules, such as acemannan, to a collagen scaffold enhances pulp regeneration by improving physical and biological properties.

Summary: Finding a bioink suitable for 3D bioprinting that can mimic the microenvironment of native skin and prevent bacterial infection remains a major challenge in skin tissue engineering. In this study, a tissue-specific extracellular matrix-based bioink was prepared, and a novel scaffold was obtained using an extrusion 3D bioprinting technology and dynamic hydrogen bonding method. The hybrid scaffold exhibited excellent properties including antibacterial activity, hemostatic effect, and biocompatibility.

Summary: This study evaluated the content and degree of acetylation (DA) of acemannan in 15 different commercial beverages containing Aloe vera. Flavoured beverages had low levels of acemannan and were fully deacetylated in most cases, likely due to the addition of fruit juices. Unflavoured beverages had variable levels of acemannan, with some samples containing very low amounts. Legislation regarding Aloe vera products is limited, leaving consumers uncertain about the true properties of the products they purchase.

Summary: In this study, tannic acid-crosslinked gelatin nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning and treated with atmospheric air plasma to enhance their bio-functionality. The results showed that atmospheric air plasma treatment not only improved the hydrophilicity of the nanofibers but also enhanced their bio-functionality against human skin fibroblast cells. Therefore, atmospheric air plasma pre-treatment is recommended for the surface functionalization of gelatin nanofibers in skin tissue engineering applications.

Summary: This study demonstrates that fermenting aloe vera leaf skin with Lactobacillus plantarum enhances mitochondrial activation and reduces photo-aging of UVb-irradiated skin fibroblasts, leading to increased collagen production and decreased reactive oxygen species. The fermented extract shows synergistic effects with quercetin and bioactive substances, making it a promising anti-aging agent for skin care.

Summary: This study investigates the characterization and analysis of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) structures prepared using different processing methods. The PVDF scaffolds exhibit good mechanical properties and biocompatibility, with variations in characteristics depending on the processing method used. However, the cell viability and proliferation are not affected by the different PVDF architectures. The topography of PVDF can influence the behavior of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and may be used for the design of vascular implants.

Summary: Low collagen blends show excellent anti-thrombogenic properties and different platelet interactions compared to high collagen samples. The blended collagen scaffolds retain a significant percentage of collagen and exhibit better endothelial cell spreading compared to gelatin scaffolds. The interaction between collagen and synthetic materials during processing is essential for these functional benefits.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate and develop amorphous and crosslinked hydrogels based on natural compounds, such as sodium alginate, aloe vera gel powder, and chitosan, for tumor spheroid formation. The results showed that adding chitosan allowed the formation of spheroids at pH 5, while low viscosity and pH 12 aloe vera gels also promoted spheroid formation. Crosslinked hydrogel variants enhanced spheroid formation efficiency.

Summary: The study aimed to fabricate erythropoietin (EPO)-releasing poly lactic acid (PLA)/nanoclay (NC)/nanohydroxyaptitite (nHA) as a new scaffold for bone tissue engineering application. The fabricated scaffolds showed acceptable physical properties with sustained release of EPO, good in vitro biocompatibility, and significantly promoted bone formation and vascularization in a rat calvarial model. The presence of osteoblast in the defect confirmed the potential of EPO in inducing mesenchymal stem cells chemotaxis, making PLA/NC/nHA-EPO a promising cell-free bioscaffold for bone tissue regeneration.
