Summary: This article proposes a proprioceptive signal-based online process monitoring method for robotic grinding. It converts the proprioceptive current signals to fused time-frequency (TF) images using a multisensor information fusion approach based on velocity synchronous linear chirplet transform (VSLCT) to extract the intrinsic features of nonstationary signals. The method also utilizes mix-up data augmentation and a residual convolutional neural network (CNN) for classification, showing higher performance and improved robustness under different conditions.

Summary: Predicting the drilling force and monitoring drill wear during the drilling process in multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) is crucial to ensure stability, processing efficiency, and drilling quality. This study investigates a spindle current-based drilling force prediction and drill wear monitoring technique, using theoretical models of drilling force, drill wear, and current signal, to develop a practical and cost-effective online monitoring system for PCB drilling. The technique includes a semi-empirical theoretical model for drilling force and torque, considering drilling parameters and drill wear, as well as a theoretical model for drilling torque and spindle current. The coefficients in the theoretical models are determined through drilling experiments with varying parameters and drill wear. Experimental results demonstrate that the predicted spindle current increment relative errors to the experimental results are mostly less than 10% for different drilling parameters and wear amounts, and the drilling force model shows good prediction accuracy when the drill flank is worn in the early and middle stages. This indicates that the proposed spindle current-based drilling force prediction and drill wear monitoring technique has high prediction accuracy and effectiveness.
