Summary: IHHNV is a major viral pathogen of penaeid shrimp worldwide, causing economic losses and listed as a notifiable crustacean disease pathogen by OIE. Studies reviewed the host and carriers, prevalence, genotypes, and virulence of IHHNV, as well as discussing pathogenesis mechanisms and viral interference with WSSV. Mechanisms underlying IHHNV infection and viral interference with WSSV need further elucidation for effective disease control and prevention.

Summary: This study investigated the feeding challenge of Infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) in different organs of Penaeus vannamei. The results showed that the hepatopancreas had the highest IHHNV positivity (100% positive, 19.4 copies/mg) in the feeding challenge experiment. The gills and pleopods had similar infectivity to IHHNV (86.7% positive, 10.6 and 10.5 copies/mg), while the muscles had the weakest infection (33.3% positive, 4.7 copies/mg). The infection of hepatopancreas by IHHNV was also confirmed histologically.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) in farmed Procambarus clarkii in different provinces in China. The results showed that the overall IHHNV-positive rate was 38.5%, with variation between provinces. The isolated IHHNV strains were closely related to infectious IHHNV and grouped into two distinct branches.

Summary: This study analyzed the response of juvenile and adult Penaeus vannamei to IHHNV infection through transcriptome sequencing and found differential expression of immune-related genes, growth-related genes, and metabolic processes. Adult P. vannamei triggered a cellular defense response and early molting to resist IHHNV, while the imperfect immune system of juvenile P. vannamei made them more susceptible to infection.

Summary: This study evaluated the immune-stimulating effect of infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus like particle (IHHNV-VLP) in Fenneropenaeus merguiensis and identified the antioxidative gene, peroxiredoxin (FmPrx), as a key gene that is up-regulated after VLP injection. The up-regulation of FmPrx enhances the level of immune-related genes and peroxidase activity, thereby improving the shrimp's immune system.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of D6 exposure on crayfish, revealing changes in oxidative stress induction and gene expression. It showed alterations in enzyme activities, antioxidant systems, and related gene expression in crayfish under D6 exposure. The research provides insights into the toxicity mechanism of D6 in crayfish and serves as a basis for further exploration in this area.

Summary: This study aimed to encapsulate large-sized double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) into a small-sized virus-like particle and compare the changes in capsid structure between dsDNA-filled and empty particles. The results showed that the dsDNA-filled particles were slightly bigger and had a thicker capsid structure compared to the empty particles. The shape of the capsid exterior also changed, particularly at the five-fold axes. The ability to encapsulate dsDNA opens up opportunities for gene delivery and targeting susceptible cells to combat viral infections in shrimp.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary melatonin levels on the antioxidant capacity, immunomodulatory, and transcriptional regulation of red swamp crayfish. The results showed that melatonin supplementation significantly increased immunity and antioxidant capacity in crayfish, with an ideal concentration of 159.02 mg/kg.

Summary: This study investigated the risk of acute and subchronic toxicity of cyhalofop-butyl and pyribenzoxim to Procambarus clarkii. The results showed that the exposure to these herbicides could accumulate in the muscle of P. clarkii, hinder its growth, induce muscle damage, and significantly affect the antioxidant system and nutrient substance synthesis.

Summary: This study investigated the immune response of Procambarus clarkii to WSSV infection and analyzed the expression of hematopoietic cytokines. Transcriptome analysis revealed differentially expressed genes and their involvement in various biological processes and signaling pathways. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis validated the findings of transcriptome analysis. The results of this study provide new evidence for the theoretical basis of the crayfish immune system and offer new insights for disease prevention and control.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of a dominant strain wx3 isolated from sick red swamp crayfish and analyzed the immune response of the crayfish under stress. The whole genome analysis confirmed that wx3 is the pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. Masoucida, which causes red swamp crayfish head rot. The study also found that wx3 is highly sensitive to certain antibiotics and that infected crayfish show a strong immune response.

Summary: A method for concentrating viruses in water was established using tangential flow ultrafiltration, with microfiltration and ultrafiltration columns showing the best concentration recovery for infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV). The sensitivity of virus detection in aquaculture water samples was determined to be 46 copies/mu L, highlighting the potential of the method for enhancing aquatic biological security and risk assessment in shrimp ponds with imported live animals.

Summary: This study analyzed the immunological effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza polysaccharides (SMP) on the hemocytes of Procambarus clarkii. The results showed that SMP treatment upregulated the activity of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), phenoloxidase (PO), and respiratory burst. Differential gene expression analysis revealed that SMP affected crustacean cellular immune-related signaling pathways. Furthermore, diets supplemented with SMP improved the cellular and humoral immunity of crayfish. This study provides molecular evidence for the immunopotentiator effects of plant polysaccharides in crustaceans.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of the progestin norgestrel (NGT) on the sperm of Pacific oysters. The results showed that NGT had a positive effect on sperm motility, but also caused oxidative stress and decreased fertilization rates. However, hatching rates were not significantly affected.
