Summary: Fungal melanins exhibit promising biosorption properties for metal-contaminated effluents treatment. Melanin pigment derived from Amorphotheca resinae showed high adsorption capacities for Cu(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II) in aqueous solutions, with an affinity sequence of Cu(II)>Pb(II)>Cd(II)>Zn(II). The chelating ability of free radicals in the pigment contributes to its efficient adsorption, making it a suitable biosorbent for metal-contaminated wastewater treatment.

Summary: Dark septate endophytes (DSEs) are a group of fungi that colonize the roots of plants in stressful environments, and they possess adaptation strategies to tolerate heavy metal contamination, drought, and salinity. They form mutualistic relationships with plants, improving plant growth and physiology. Additionally, DSEs can improve soil quality and aid in phytoremediation of contaminated soils.

Summary: The organic conductive membrane prepared by chemical vapor deposition on a PVDF membrane surface showed stable chemical properties and anti-fouling performance after modification, with a slight decrease in adsorption capacity. Additionally, the presence of an electric field further enhanced the anti-fouling properties of the modified membrane compared to the blank and modified membranes without electric field.

Summary: The adsorption mechanism of Fe3+, Al3+, and Cu2+ ions on chitosan films was studied using a heterogeneous monolayer model with two types of binding site at varying temperatures and pH levels. The theoretical results suggested a multi-ionic adsorption process with different contributions from amino and hydroxyl groups, resulting in a wide range of adsorption capacities at saturation. The removal mechanism for Al3+ and Cu2+ ions was found to be exothermic, while the adsorption of Fe3+ ions was endothermic.

Summary: The interaction of aged nanoplastics with heavy metals was investigated in this study. The results showed that aged nanopolystyrene had an enhanced adsorption capacity for heavy metals due to the increase in oxygen containing functional groups. The aged nanoplastics also promoted the transport of heavy metals more effectively than pristine nanoplastics. This study is significant in assessing the potential risk of aged nanoplastics in soil-groundwater systems.
