Summary: The research findings show that green building can save a significant amount of energy and water resources compared to traditional buildings, thus reducing the cost per square meter. The cost-benefit ratio of green building is 2.35, justifying the increased costs of investment, maintenance, and renewals. These research results provide important decision-making support for policymakers, construction practitioners, and other stakeholders.

Summary: This study evaluates the economic benefits of water quality improvement in three major river basins in South Korea through meta-regression analysis. The results show that the increase in water quality grade has an impact on willingness-to-pay values. By comparing benefits with costs, the study explores the economic evaluation of water resource management and provides policy options for maintaining long-term sustainability.

Summary: Patients with Crohn's disease have an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is associated with higher in-hospital case-fatality rate. Older age, obesity, colon involvement, cancer, surgery, thrombophilia, and heart failure are strong risk factors for VTE in Crohn's disease patients.

Summary: This article presents a Swedish case study that evaluates the installation of ultrafiltration membranes through combining risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis. The study uses quantitative microbial risk assessment to estimate the risk reduction from waterborne pathogens and monetizes the societal value of improved water quality. The results show that the installation of ultrafiltration membranes is a sound investment from a societal economic perspective, reducing infection risk and improving aesthetic water quality.

Summary: Accurately identifying appropriate clearing methods for different sites can save costs significantly. A cost-based model that takes into account site parameters and unit costs was developed to determine the most cost-effective method. Field tests in South Africa showed that the drill-and-fill method was most effective in most cases, while the ABBA method was suitable for specific site conditions.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare the patient outcomes between motor vehicle crash (MVC) victims with an ISS < 15 and those with a similar ISS and a flame burn injury. The study found that MVC victims with mild injuries who also sustain a burn injury are more likely to require admission to the ICU regardless of their comorbidities and more likely to develop respiratory complications. Their hospital stay is also longer.

Summary: Shadowing is praised as a crucial component of a pre-medical undergraduate student's journey, with students reporting it as a key deciding factor. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted shadowing programs and opportunities. To address this issue, the authors propose allowing in-person shadowing with safety protocols, enhancing virtual shadowing, filling clinical roles with student volunteers/workers, and recognizing the challenges faced by students.
