Summary: This study investigated the clinical and survival features of esophageal adenosquamous carcinoma (ADSC). The proportion of ADSC within the esophageal cancer cohort declined from 2004 to 2018. The survival rate of ADSC was not significantly different from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), but worse than adenocarcinoma (ADC). Surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were found to improve the prognosis of ADSC patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic value of tumor deposits (TDs) in gastric cancer and investigated the best ways to incorporate TDs into the TNM classification. The results showed that TDs were significantly related to unfavorable factors and were an independent prognostic factor for gastric cancer. Incorporating TDs as metastatic lymph nodes in the TNM classification improved the accuracy of predicting prognosis.

Summary: Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the gallbladder are rare and often diagnosed at advanced stages, but patients who undergo surgical resection for GB-NEC have improved progression-free survival. Overall survival and PFS are similar between stage-matched GB-NEC and GB-ADC patients, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and improved survival strategies for GB-NEC.

Summary: Acinetobacter baumannii bloodstream infection is a significant threat to human survival. Early identification of risk factors affecting prognosis is beneficial in the clinical setting. This study used a propensity score matching method to analyze the data of patients with Acinetobacter baumannii bloodstream infection. The results showed that patients with higher SOFA scores, septic shock, or mechanical ventilation at the time of infection were more likely to have a poor prognosis and higher mortality rate within 28 days.

Summary: This study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) to explore the impact of retirement on the health of elderly individuals in China. The results showed that retirement has a beneficial effect on the health of elderly individuals, including reducing physical pain, decreasing the risk of depression, and improving cognitive status. These findings indicate the importance of considering the potential effects of retirement on health when formulating retirement-related policies.

Summary: The study compared the clinicopathological characteristics and long-term oncological outcomes of bilateral and unilateral multifocal papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). It found that bilateral multifocal PTC was associated with more aggressive features and poorer disease-free survival (DFS) compared to unilateral multifocal PTC. Therefore, comprehensive preoperative examination for detecting multifocality and postoperative short-term follow-up for recurrence surveillance of unilateral multifocal PTC are recommended.

Summary: A matched cohort study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI) on reducing intraoperative hypotension in non-cardiac surgery patients. The results indicated that the application of HPI can significantly reduce the occurrence and duration of hypotensive events during surgery, especially in high-risk patients.

Summary: This study compared the perioperative and oncologic outcomes between robotic hepatectomy (RH) and laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH). The study found that RH had a lower conversion rate to open surgery and longer operative time compared to LH, but there were no significant differences in other perioperative outcomes or oncologic results.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of oocyte thawing cycles in the clinical application of assisted reproductive technology (ART). The clinical pregnancy outcomes of oocyte thawing cycles were not significantly different from fresh oocytes, but vitrification affected the development of two pronuclei zygotes and the quality of embryos, as well as the normal fertilization rate after thawing. Freezing oocytes in women over 35 years of age affected the clinical efficacy of ART.

Summary: The study found that compared to open pancreatoduodenectomy, minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD) was associated with a higher rate of adequate lymphadenectomy and a shorter length of stay. However, there were no significant differences in the surgical margins status, 90-day mortality, and overall survival between the two approaches.

Summary: The lateral-first approach for ta-TME surgery presents advantages over lap-TME in terms of operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative complications, and postoperative hospital stay. Further studies with a larger population and longer follow-up period are needed to confirm the oncological superiority of this technique.

Summary: In terms of anatomical liver sectionectomy approaches, central hepatectomy (CH) and major hepatectomy (MH) are feasible options for a centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). After propensity score matching, the short- and long-term surgical outcomes of CH and MH for centrally located HCC are similar, with CH having the advantage of not requiring preoperative portal vein embolization and increased chances of repeat hepatectomy for recurrence.
