Summary: This study found a relationship between dry eye disease and newly diagnosed OCD patients who were not using any psychiatric drug. Compared to healthy controls, OCD patients had higher Ocular Surface Disease Index, corneal and conjunctival staining grade, and higher neutrophil-to-leucocyte ratio values, as well as lower Schirmer I test and tear breakup time values. This suggests that inflammation may play a role in the pathogenesis of both diseases.

Summary: Patient-reported symptom monitoring from the beginning of therapy in patients with CML may be critical to improve adherence to therapy and early molecular response rates. The current findings suggest that systematic monitoring of patient-reported symptoms is associated with high adherence rates.

Summary: The study aims to explore the symptom experience of Chinese patients with Crohn's disease during the first year after diagnosis. A qualitative longitudinal study was conducted, and 18 newly diagnosed patients were interviewed at four time points. The study found that negative emotions related to symptoms decreased over time, and patients' acceptance of symptoms increased within the first year following diagnosis. The study also emphasizes the need for additional health education to strengthen patients' self-management awareness.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the lifestyle and symptom factors related to dry eye disease (DED) presence in patients with persistent gout using the Taiwan Biobank database. The research found that VDT usage and persistent alcohol drinking are prominent lifestyle and symptom risk factors for DED occurrence in patients who have experienced gout for more than 10 years.

Summary: Now that low-intensity therapies have become the leading options for elderly patients, it is crucial to consider age and comorbidities when selecting therapy. Factors influencing mortality and prognosis in patients receiving intensive chemotherapy and the risk categories derived from these factors are reviewed, followed by a discussion of potential treatment options. Low-intensity therapies, such as the combination of a hypomethylating agent with venetoclax, have emerged as promising treatment options for elderly patients. Comorbidity-based risk stratification allows prognosis stratification in patients undergoing both intensive and low-intensity chemotherapy, and optimizing treatment intensity based on such stratification is anticipated to improve the life expectancy for AML patients.

Summary: The study reveals a link between diabetes mellitus and dry eye disease, with individuals having diabetes more likely to have dry eyes. Additionally, the presence of end-organ complications in diabetes mellitus significantly affects the symptoms and severity of eyelid laxity in dry eye disease.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of comorbid personality disorders in patients with newly diagnosed BD and their unaffected first-degree relatives compared with healthy control individuals. The results showed that 25.5% of patients with newly diagnosed BD and 6.4% of their relatives fulfilled the criteria for comorbid personality disorders. Subthreshold personality disorders were also more prevalent in BD patients and their relatives. Comorbid personality disorders were associated with impaired functioning in BD patients.

Summary: This study investigated the safety and efficacy of the BRAF-MEK inhibitor combination vemurafenib-cobimetinib in patients with papillary craniopharyngiomas. Results showed that 15 out of 16 patients had a durable objective partial response or better to the therapy. The median reduction in tumor volume was 91%, and the progression-free survival rates at 12 and 24 months were 87% and 58% respectively.

Summary: This study found a significant association between mask use and symptoms of dry eye. Participants with mild initial symptom scores experienced more severe dry eye symptoms during mask wear compared to those with severe symptom scores at baseline. The use of masks with nose wire may provide protection against symptom exacerbation.

Summary: Dry eye disease is a multifactorial condition that is caused by reduced tear secretion, increased tear water evaporation, or the production of poor-quality tears. Recent studies have found that vitamin D supplementation may be an effective alternative therapy for patients with DED who do not respond to conventional treatments, possibly due to its positive effect on modulating immune and inflammatory responses. This review focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of DED, with a special emphasis on the potential role of systemic administration of vitamin D as a therapeutic approach.
