Summary: In this study, the dose of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) was reduced and its safety and efficacy were improved through the regulation of magnesium ion (Mg2+). Magnesium ion enhanced cellular bioenergetic levels and the osteoinductivity of BMP-2. A co-delivery system, fabricated using microfluidic and 3D printing technologies, was able to rapidly and robustly induce bone regeneration.

Summary: The study compared the healing patterns between immediate and delayed applications of BMP-2 in damaged extraction sockets in dogs. The results showed that delayed application of BMP-2 2 weeks after surgery did not provide any advantage over immediate application in terms of new bone formation, despite observing larger bone formation area in the control group.

Summary: In this study, a complex coacervate consisting of fucoidan and poly-l-lysine (PLL) was fabricated to encapsulate BMP-2, avoiding denaturation and enhancing therapeutic action. The coacervate showed superior binding ability to BMP-2 and allowed for prolonged release, improving its bioactivity and protection against antagonist and proteolysis. The coated coacervate on collagen sponges demonstrated bioactivity and localized bone regenerating ability in vitro and in vivo evaluations.

Summary: Bone Morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) like BMP2 and BMP7 have shown great potential in the treatment of severe bone defects. However, BMP9, although having the highest osteogenic potential in vitro, does not show superior bone forming capacity compared to BMP2 or BMP7 in vivo.

Summary: In chronic non-contained bone defects treated with GBR, TiO2 blocks demonstrated the largest lateral volume augmentation but less new bone formation, while DBBM particles showed more mineralized bone in the grafted area but in smaller amounts. Empty controls had the most new lateral bone formation outward from the defect margins.

Summary: Bone defects are a global public health problem, and the available methods for inducing bone regeneration are limited. β-ecdysterone, a plant sterol similar to estrogen, has been found to promote bone regeneration by enhancing osteoblast differentiation and activating the BMP-2/Smad/Runx2/Osterix pathway. This study provides a new direction for osteogenic differentiation and offers novel therapeutic strategies for treating bone defects.

Summary: The study reveals that BMP signaling inhibits dedifferentiation of intestinal epithelial cells, and attenuation of the BMP pathway through stromal upregulation of Grem1 is essential for adaptive reprogramming in intestinal regeneration. However, the functional impact of this intervention is submaximal, suggesting potential therapeutic pathway manipulation in inflammatory bowel disease.

Summary: In this study, rat calvaria defect model was used to compare the bone regeneration effect of ErhBMP-2 implanted with DBM or HA as carriers. The group with DBM as the carrier showed significantly higher bone volume and thickness in both weeks, indicating that DBM could be a better carrier for ErhBMP-2 than HA.

Summary: In this study, we improved the osteoinductive activity of marine-plankton-derived whitlockite (MP-WH) granules by incorporating bone morphogenetic protein2 (BMP2). The results showed that hMSCs seeded on MP-WH/BMP2 granules exhibited better biocompatibility, proliferation, and adhesion compared to MP-WH. Furthermore, the incorporation of BMP2 significantly upregulated the expression of bone-specific markers, indicating enhanced osteogenic effects.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate factors influencing the survival of replaced dental implants. The results showed that a history of periodontitis, guided bone regeneration (GBR) at first implant placement, and non-GBR at primary implant replacement were identified as independent risk factors for second implant removal. The 5-year survival rate was significantly lower in replaced implants at sites with a periodontitis history compared to those without.

Summary: Repeated LED irradiation at 470-nm and 525-nm wavelengths can suppress the progression of experimental periodontitis. The study used a beagle dog model and monitored the spontaneous progression of periodontitis for 3 months under specific treatment regimens. The results showed significant differences in probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) between the LED treatment group and the control group, while gingival recession (GR) did not differ significantly. Histomorphometric analysis demonstrated that the lengths of junctional epithelium, connective tissue (CT) zone, and total soft tissue (ST) were significantly higher in the LED treatment group.

Summary: Direct He-APPJ treatment for up to 3 minutes showed no harmful effects at either the cell or tissue level. Immediate cell detachment of human gingival fibroblasts and osteoblasts was observed regardless of treatment time, but areas detached in the 1 or 3 minute treatment groups were completely repopulated within 7 days. Alkaline phosphatase activity was not affected by 1 or 3 minutes of plasma treatment, but significantly lower in the 5 minute-treated group.
