Summary: PD-MCT is a multidisciplinary inpatient treatment option increasingly applied in Germany, with data showing improvements in motor function for patients. Factors such as age, severity, and depression levels may impact the efficacy of the treatment. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of different treatment durations.

Summary: This study characterized bioenergetic dysfunction in Parkinson's disease using a multimodal approach, and found impaired mitophagy and mitochondrial uncoupling in patient-derived fibroblasts. The study also revealed abnormal phosphocreatine levels and implicated a link between impaired mitophagy and impaired striatal energy homeostasis in early Parkinson's disease.

Summary: People diagnosed with schizophrenia have poor cardiometabolic health, with elevated 10-year cardiovascular disease risk (CVD-R) scores and low quality of life (QOL). This study quantified individual 10-year CVD-R of people diagnosed with early psychosis using the QRISK(R)3 calculator and explored relationships between QOL, CVD-R, and lifestyle factors. Despite positive lifestyle behaviours, participants had elevated CVD-R scores and poor physical health-related QOL.

Summary: This study found associations between nocturnal behaviors and sleep quality in pregnant women. Nocturnal eating and artificial light exposure at night were associated with poor sleep quality, while nocturnal physical activity and screen viewing before bedtime were not related to sleep quality.

Summary: Controversial evidence suggests that obesity may not pose a risk to health if a person leads a healthy lifestyle and does not have any metabolic complications. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between adherence to healthy lifestyle recommendations and the absence of metabolic complications in relation to cardiovascular disease and mortality rates based on different body mass index (BMI) categories. The findings suggest that meeting healthy lifestyle recommendations or not having metabolic complications can partially offset the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and premature mortality in overweight or obese individuals. Therefore, offering support to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and adopt healthy behaviors is crucial in preventive healthcare.

Summary: This study evaluated the correlation between anthropometric variables and the quality of life in individuals with Parkinson's disease. The results showed that quality of life was worse in terms of body discomfort, social support, and mobility, and it deteriorated with advanced age. There were also correlations between the worst scores in quality of life dimensions and nutritional status.

Summary: People with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) have reduced quality of life, and engaging in healthy lifestyle behaviors such as a healthy diet and regular physical activity can improve their quality of life. This study aims to assess the benefits of individual lifestyle behaviors on quality of life, and whether engaging in multiple healthy behaviors concurrently has additive benefits.

Summary: Using generalized linear models, this study found that coffee drinking was associated with reduced swallowing problems, while the dosage and duration of coffee intake were not related to motor or non-motor symptoms. Aspirin intake correlated with increased tremor, problems getting up, light-headedness, and problems remembering. Smoking directly correlated with symptoms such as drooling, swallowing difficulties, and freezing, as well as potentially mood-related symptoms like unexplained pains, memory problems, and feeling sad. Confirmatory and longitudinal studies are needed to further investigate these clinical correlations over time.

Summary: This article presents demographic and detailed clinical data from 159 patients with Parkinson's disease or atypical Parkinsonian syndromes treated in the Parkinson's disease multimodal complex treatment (PD-MCT) in Germany. The dataset allows determination of the effect of PD-MCT and identification of predictors of a beneficial treatment. The dataset can be used by clinicians and academia for further research and as reference.

Summary: This study found that there is seasonal fluctuation in the quality of life of patients with Parkinson's disease, with higher scores in the spring and lower scores in the autumn. The determinants of quality of life also vary by season, suggesting that clinicians may need to consider specific factors for different seasons before initiating therapy.

Summary: This study found that wearable device-based parameters (DBP) can objectively describe gait and balance impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD) and are correlated with clinical scores. PD-MCT significantly improves gait velocity and stride length and has a positive impact on other DBP. Motor complications and fear of falling may influence the response to PD-MCT. The results of this study suggest that a DBP-based assessment can provide more individualized therapy and improve outcomes for PD patients.

Summary: Depression plays a major mediating role in the relationship between fatigue and mental quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis, while physical activity has a minor role. These findings may contribute to the development of treatments to reduce the impacts of fatigue and improve mental quality of life in pwMS.

Summary: The management of multiple sclerosis (MS) has seen significant advancements with the rise of mHealth technologies, but the uptake of mHealth apps among MS patients outside of North America remains unclear. This study, based on the HOLISM cohort, provides insights into mHealth app usage and the characteristics of adopters within a global MS population. Overall, 3.1% of respondents reported using mHealth apps, mainly concentrated in Australasia and North America.

Summary: Understanding the dietary characteristics of people living with multiple sclerosis (plwMS) is important for planning nutrition interventions. This study validated the psychometric properties of the Dietary Habits Questionnaire (DHQ) and compared it with repeated 24-hour recall assessments. The DHQ was found to be appropriate for screening participants with relapsing-remitting MS, and five dietary patterns were identified.

Summary: The goal of this research was to identify elements that aided in course completion and implementation of teachings in a digital mindfulness course. The study found that benefits from a virtual community, appeal of content, enablers to participation and implementation, and personal benefits were key themes. Some novel findings include growing together, repeating the course, evidence-based teaching, and immediate benefits on physical and mental well-being.
