Summary: In this letter, a novel miniaturized wideband dual-polarized antenna for MIMO applications is proposed. It is based on cross magnetic dipoles and a backed cavity. The antenna utilizes dipoles with exponential curvature edges and introduces four parasitic resonators to enhance its impedance matching. It also employs a wideband hybrid ring coupler to generate +/- 45 degrees polarization. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated and measured, showing good agreement with simulation results.

Summary: With the advancement in detection technology, the survivability of battlefield targets is being challenged. Therefore, microwave absorbers with stealth characteristics are of significant research value in modern military applications. In this study, an ultra-wideband absorber (UWB) based on a hybrid structure is proposed to address the issues of limited bandwidth and complex structure. A polarization-insensitive UWB absorber (PIUWA) is designed, manufactured, and characterized, exhibiting an absorptivity of over 90% across a frequency range of 4 to 24.53 GHz (with a fractional bandwidth of 144%) by inducing multiple resonance peaks in the hybrid structure. The subwavelength periodicity of the PIUWA provides good angular stability under full-wave polarizations. The operating mechanism of the PIUWA is explained using an equivalent circuit model, and the design correctness is confirmed through experimental measurements. This study contributes to the development of UWB microwave absorbers with high absorptivity, good angular stability, and simplified assembly procedures.

Summary: A low-profile compact tri-band (2.45/3.5/5.8 GHz) reconfigurable antenna with versatile radiation modes is proposed for portable wireless communication in this study. The antenna consists of a patch radiator with T-shaped cuts, meander-slot defected ground, and shorting pins, which enables three frequency bands with different radiation patterns. The antenna features a compact volume and exhibits omnidirectional radiations at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz and unidirectional radiation at 3.5 GHz. By applying different dc biases to the varactors, the operating bands can be tuned. The fabricated antenna shows good agreement between measured and simulated results. This miniaturized tri-band antenna has potential applications in portable wireless services and intelligent transport devices.

Summary: This study investigates the coexistence of antibiotics and heavy metals in livestock wastewater and their impact on antibiotic degradation by microbial fuel cells (MFCs). The results indicate that the presence of heavy metals and enrofloxacin can enhance the power output of MFCs and their ability to remove antibiotics. The coexistence of heavy metals also stabilizes the performance of MFCs in response to changes in COD or enrofloxacin concentrations. It is suggested that Comamonas bacteria have high adaptability to wastewater containing heavy metals and antibiotics and may be a functional bacterium for electricity production and antibiotic degradation in MFCs.
