The consensus of the members of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes' Subcommittee on the taxonomy of Mollicutes is that recently proposed sweeping changes to nomenclature of members of the Mycoplasmatales, specifically involving introduction of the names Malacoplasma gen. nov., Mesomycoplasma gen. nov., Metamycoplasma gen. nov., Metamycoplasmataceae fam. nov., Mycoplasmoidaceae fam. nov., Mycoplasmoidales ord. nov., Mycoplasmoides gen. nov., Mycoplasmopsis gen. nov., and all proposed species or subspecies comb. nov. placed therein, should be rejected because they violate one or more essential points of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes.

Minimising school disruption under high incidence conditions due to the Omicron variant in France, Switzerland, Italy, in January 2022

Elisabetta Colosi, Giulia Bassignana, Alain Barratt, Bruno Lina, Philippe Vanhems, Julia Bielicki, Vittoria Colizza

Summary: As the Omicron variant cases increased in early 2022, schools faced significant disruptions. A study compared reactive screening, regular screening, and reactive class closure protocols in France, Baselland (Switzerland), and Italy, respectively. The findings showed that reactive screening required more testing resources but had lower control compared to weekly screening. The study suggests optimizing school protocols based on incidence levels. Evaluation: 9 out of 10.

Modeling the impact of national and regional lockdowns on the 2020 spring wave of COVID-19 in France

Jonathan Roux, Clement R. Massonnaud, Vittoria Colizza, Simon Cauchemez, Pascal Crepey

Summary: We assessed the impact of national and regional lockdowns considering the French first epidemic wave of COVID-19 as a case study. Regional lockdowns for preventing ICU saturation would have been needed in almost all French regions within 10 days. The timing of lockdowns, whether at a regional or national level, significantly affects the morbidity, mortality, and stress on the healthcare system.

Vaccination Upregulates Th1 Cytokines in the Lung of Pigs Experimentally Infected with Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

Francisco Rodriguez, Ruben S. Rosales, Ana S. Ramirez, Jose B. Poveda

Summary: Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae is the causative agent of enzootic pneumonia in pigs, leading to impaired immune-inflammatory function and fatal pneumonia. Vaccination is commonly used, but its effectiveness varies. Enhancing Th1 response is crucial to improve vaccine efficacy.

Virulence and Ecology of Agrobacteria in the Context of Evolutionary Genomics

Alexandra J. Weisberg, Yu wu, Jeff H. Chang, Erh-Min Lai, Chih-Horng Kuo

Summary: Agrobacteria are feared as agricultural pathogens, causing abnormalities and economic damage to plants, but they are also revered in the laboratory for their usefulness as models and tools in biological research. This review synthesizes elegant work on agrobacterial virulence mechanisms and ecology, emphasizing their genomic and plasmid characteristics, and highlights areas for further research.

Rice OsHsp16.9A interacts with OsHsp101 to confer thermotolerance

Yi-Hsin Liu, Tong-Seung Tseng, Ching-Rong Wu, Shu-Ting Cho, Chih-Horng Kuo, Xin-Jie Huang, Jung-Yi Cheng, Kuo-Hsuan Hsu, Kung-Fu Lin, Chia-Chin Liu, Ching-Hui Yeh

Summary: The small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) OsHsp16.9A and OsHsp18.0 have been found to accumulate in response to heat shock and play different roles in thermotolerance in rice. Mass spectrometry analysis revealed that OsHsp16.9A forms a stable complex with OsHsp101, and specific amino acid residues of OsHsp16.9A are essential for this interaction. The interaction between OsHsp16.9A and OsHsp101 is crucial for enhancing thermotolerance in rice plants.

A Cadaveric Study Using Computed Tomography for Measuring the Ocular Bulb and Scleral Skeleton of the Atlantic Puffin (Aves, Alcidae, Fratercula arctica)

Marcos Fumero-Hernandez, Mario Encinoso, Ana Sofia Ramirez, Inmaculada Morales, Alejandro Suarez Perez, Jose Raduan Jaber

Summary: Advanced imaging techniques, such as CT, are valuable in providing detailed information on the ocular structures of seabirds, which require specific adaptations for their diverse aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial environments. Understanding the ocular anatomy and biology of these animals is important for clinicians, biologists, and researchers. However, there is a lack of publications regarding the use of imaging diagnosis in avian ophthalmology. Our study focused on the morphometric analysis of the ocular bulb and its internal structures in puffins using advanced imaging techniques such as CT.
