The last decade was marked by the growing interest of researchers in the chemistry of 1,1'-bis(ortho-carborane) and transition metal complexes based thereof. In this review various types of transition metal complexes with 1,1'-bis(ortho-carborane) based ligands will be considered including those in which it acts as a deprotonated sigma-ligand, or as a pi-ligand formed by decapitation or reduction of the carborane cage as well as complexes based on phosphine derivatives of 1,1'-bis(ortho-carborane).
