This study aimed to provide a large-scale investigation on direct effect of K2O additive nuclear radiation shielding properties of calcium phosphate based bioactive quaternary P2O5-CaO-Na2O-K2O glasses. A gamma ray attenuation setup has been modeled in MCNPX (v-2.6-0) simulation code using Monte Carlo simulation technique. Next, all the bioactive glasses have been defined considering their chemical properties and material densities, respectively. The mass attenuation coefficients (MAC) have been calculated by using MCNPX code and obtained results have been used for determination of another vital gamma-ray shielding parameters. Moreover, a detailed calculation has been done for determination of exposure buildup factor (EBF) and energy absorption buildup factor (EABF) of investigated bioactive glasses which should be considered as important parameters for interaction properties of ionizing radiation with material environment. In addition, effective removal cross sections for fast neutrons have been calculated. To compare our results, obtained HVL values of the present investigation have been compared with copper oxide and cobalt oxide substituted bioactive glasses. Among the investigated bioactive glasses, the maximum MAC values were reported for PCNK60 sample with higher K2O additive. It can be concluded that chemical structure of additive materials in the bioactive glasses is strongly related with the radiation attenuation properties of bioactive glasses.

Electron beam irradiation and carbon nanotubes influence on PVDF-PZT composites for energy harvesting and storage applications: Changes in dynamic-mechanical and dielectric properties

Eman O. Taha, Haifa A. Alyousef, A. M. Dorgham, O. M. Hemeda, Hesham M. H. Zakaly, P. Noga, M. M. Abdelhamied, M. M. Atta

Summary: In this research, the PVDF-PZT composite was successfully manufactured using a solution-casting approach. The effects of electron beam dosage and CNT loading on the structural, dielectric, and dynamic-mechanical characteristics of PVDF-PZT were investigated. The results showed that incorporating CNT into PVDF-PZT increased the storage modulus, while electron beam irradiation decreased the storage modulus and crosslinking density. Additionally, both CNT content and electron beam dosage enhanced the dielectric parameters of PVDF-PZT.

Summary: We investigated the symmetry of mechanical and gamma-ray attenuation properties in some tellurite glasses by studying the elastic moduli, mechanical properties, and transmission properties with varied WO3 content. Four glass samples with different compositions and WO3/GdF3 substitution ratios were examined. The M4 sample with the highest WO3 addition showed the best photon attenuation properties among the glasses studied, with an increase in Poisson's ratio and a decrease in all elastic moduli. Increasing the WO3 content in tellurite glasses can be considered as a tool to provide symmetry for mechanical and gamma-ray attenuation properties.

Summary: This study investigates the behavioral changes and attenuation parameters for heavy-charged particles in zinc-tellurite glasses with Indium and Tantalum incorporations. The results show that the ZTT7 sample has the highest release of charged particles in KERMA calculations. The mass stopping power values steadily increase from 0 MeV to 0.1 MeV for all absorbent glass materials. In conclusion, zinc-tellurite glasses with maximum Tantalum reinforcement show promise for stopping proton and alpha particles, and Tantalum reinforcement can provide symmetry for attenuation enhancement against heavy-charged particles.

Tailoring optimal translocation conditions towards proximity of borotellurite glasses to the red spectrum through CeO2 for practical applications

Caglar Cetinkaya, Erman Cokduygulular, Baris Kinaci, Erkan Ilik, Gokhan Kilic, Ghada ALMisned, Hesham M. H. Zakaly, Antoaneta Ene, H. O. Tekin

Summary: We conducted a study on the optical properties of a multicomponent glass system, including average visible transmittance, color, color rendering index, and correlated color temperature. Various theoretical approaches and calculations were used to determine the optical properties. The results showed that by adding CeO2, the glass color can be shifted towards the red spectrum by altering the transmittance spectrum to the long-wavelength portion of the visible spectrum. This indicates the potential for producing filter systems with modifiable NIR or red optical characteristics through CeO2 alterations in borotellurite glass systems.

Tailoring a symmetry for material properties of tellurite glasses through tungsten(vi) oxide addition: Mechanical properties and gamma-ray transmissions properties

Ghada ALMisned, Ziad Y. Y. Khattari, Elaf Rabaa, Yasser S. S. Rammah, Duygu Sen Baykal, Gokhan Kilic, Hesham M. H. Zakaly, Antoaneta Ene, Huseyin Ozan Tekin

Summary: We investigated the correlation between mechanical and gamma-ray transmission properties in tellurite glasses with increasing concentrations of tungsten (VI) oxide. Using the Makishima-Mackenzie model, we estimated the mechanical properties and Poisson's ratio (s) of the glasses. Gamma-ray attenuation properties were determined in the energy range of 0.015-15 MeV. The results showed that as the [WO3] or [TeO2] molar increment increased, Poisson's ratio (s) decreased, while the elastic moduli increased linearly. Additionally, gamma-ray attenuation properties were enhanced with increasing WO3 substitution amount in the glass structure.
