The major indications of a successful inflamed-pulp-capping procedure are the formation of a dense calcified dentin barrier and the preservation of healthy pulp tissue concomitant with elimination of inflammation. Our aim is to evaluate the effects of an injectable silver-doped bioactive glass/ chitosan hydrogel (Ag-BG/CS), as a pulp-capping material, and explore the molecular mechanisms of Ag-BG/CS in regards to its bioactive and anti-inflammatory properties. First, the structure and component of the material were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Then, the downstream molecular mechanisms and anti-inflammatory effects were characterized by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and Western blot. Finally, a preclinical model of rat pulpitis was used to explore the potential of Ag-BG/CS in controlling pulp inflammation in vivo. The results showed that Ag-BG/CS induced stronger reparative dentin formation and enhanced preservation of vital pulp tissue when compared to the mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) which is the currently used clinical standard. Ag-BG/CS also significantly increased the phosphorylation of p38 and ERK1/2(p42/44) of dental pulp cells, indicating that Ag-BG/CS enhanced pulpal repair through the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. This novel material may represent a superior solution for dental pulp-capping clinical scenarios with specific advantages for cases of early diffuse pulpitis in immature permanent teeth.

Collapse arrest in a two-dimensional Airy Gaussian beam and Airy Gaussian vortex beam in nonlocal nonlinear media

Ye Chen, Lijuan Ge, Xinglin Wang, Ming Shen

Summary: The propagation dynamics of two-dimensional Airy Gaussian beams and Airy Gaussian vortex beams in local and nonlocal nonlinear media were investigated numerically. The self-healing and collapse of the beams depend on the distribution factor b and the topological charge m. By utilizing nonlocality, stable Airy Gaussian beams and Airy Gaussian vortex beams with larger amplitudes can be obtained, which always collapse in local nonlinear media. When the distribution factor b is large enough, the Airy Gaussian vortex beam will transform into quasi-vortex solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media.

Summary: This study investigated perioperative clinicopathological predictors and established a predictive nomogram for survival in patients with renal cell carcinoma and venous tumor thrombus undergoing nephrectomy and thrombectomy. The results showed that hemoglobin level, sarcomatoid feature, perirenal fat invasion, histological subtype, and metastasis at surgery were independently associated with overall survival. They developed a predictive nomogram that had a good predictive performance.

Hongming Guo, Yuchao Cui, Linjuan Huang, Li Ge, Xiaorong Xu, Danyang Xue, Ming Tang, Jingsheng Zheng, Yin Yi, Liang Chen

Summary: This study identified and characterized two La proteins (OsLa1 and OsLa2) in rice, which play important roles in rice growth and development. OsLa1 modulates grain size by influencing cell expansion, while mutant OsLa2 results in thin grains and low seed-setting rate. In addition, OsLa1 and OsLa2 interact with OseIF6.1 and OsLa1 can modulate the expression of OseIF6.1.

Unraveling the mechanisms of inhibition of silver-doped bioactive glass-ceramic particles

Natalia Pajares-Chamorro, Josh M. M. Lensmire, Neal D. D. Hammer, Jonathan W. W. Hardy, Xanthippi Chatzistavrou

Summary: This study explored the antibacterial capabilities of silver-doped bioactive glass microparticles and revealed the unedited mechanisms of inhibition against MRSA. The antibacterial properties were not limited to the delivery of silver ions but rather a combination of antibacterial degradation by-products. Additionally, the restorative functionality of the glass allowed the effective use of antibiotics that MRSA resists.

Decoding the multicellular ecosystem of vena caval tumor thrombus in clear cell renal cell carcinoma by single-cell RNA sequencing

Yue Shi, Qi Zhang, Hai Bi, Min Lu, Yezhen Tan, Daojia Zou, Liyuan Ge, Zhigang Chen, Cheng Liu, Weimin Ci, Lulin Ma

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms involved in tumor thrombus formation in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). The results show that tumor thrombus is marked by the presence of CD8(+) T cells with an exhausted phenotype and enhanced remodeling of the extracellular matrix. In contrast, proinflammatory states and increased expression of immunosuppressive markers are found in macrophages and malignant cells from primary tumors. The interactions between tumor and stroma reshape the extracellular matrix in tumor thrombus, which is associated with poor survival.

Summary: An ant colony algorithm based on angle guide is proposed in this paper to address the issues of local optimum and slow convergence in solving mobile robot path planning. The algorithm integrates angle factor in node selection, utilizes pheromone differential updating for different paths, and introduces pheromone chaotic disturbance updating mechanism to improve global search ability and efficiency.
