In the postmodern era of industrialization, sustainable business performance is vital for success in a competitive environment. In order to attain sustainable business performance, Malaysian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are facing various social and technological challenges. The objective of this study was to examine the roles of social and technological challenges in achieving a sustainable competitive advantage and sustainable business performance. To accomplish this objective, first-hand data were collected from Malaysian SMEs. Opinions of managerial staff of these SMEs were preferred regarding the roles of social and technological challenges in achieving a sustainable competitive advantage and sustainable business performance. An email survey was carried out to collect data. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed among managerial staff of SMEs. Questionnaires were distributed by using simple random sampling. By using structural equation modeling, findings of the study revealed that social and technological challenges played major roles in boosting sustainable competitive advantage and sustainable business performance. Moreover, strategic alignment was a key in reflecting the positive roles of social and technological factors on sustainable competitive advantage. Findings of the study are beneficial for practitioners and will allow their strategies to reflect sustainable competitive advantages and sustainable business performance.

Kittisak Jermsittiparsert, Aria Ghabussi, Ali Forooghi, Aghil Shavalipour, Mostafa Habibi, Dong Won Jung, Maryam Safa

Summary: Smart composites have become the desired target for high-tech engineering applications due to manufacturing process advancements. This study explores the thermal buckling, critical voltage, and vibration response of a thermally affected graphene nanoplatelet reinforced composite microdisk. The results reveal the significant influence of distribution patterns, weight fraction, piezoelectric thickness, outer to inner radius ratio, and applied voltage on the system's behavior.

Summary: This study optimized the predictors for fatty acid methyl ester yield and exergy efficiency in situ transesterification process. The results showed that the optimal combination for fatty acid methyl ester yield was ultrasonic power and reaction time, while the optimal combination for exergy efficiency was concentrations of methanol and chloroform in oil. These optimized predictors effectively improved the fatty acid methyl ester yield and exergy efficiency.

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing e-wallet adoption intention in Malaysia. The results show that performance expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, trust, facilitating condition, and habit constructs have an impact on the intention to continuously adopt e-wallet electronic payment system. Surprisingly, the perceived security construct has no significant influence on the intention, indicating users' confidence in the security measures implemented by financial institutions. These findings have practical and theoretical implications, especially in achieving the vision of a cashless society.

The Impact of CO2 Emissions and Energy Consumption on Economic Growth: A Panel Data Analysis

Armenia Androniceanu, Irina Georgescu

Summary: This study examines the dynamic connection among economic growth, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and foreign direct investments (FDIs). The panel section considers the period of 2000-2020 for 25 EU Member States excluding Malta and Croatia. The empirical analysis uses estimation procedures such as panel unit root tests and panel ARDL based on different estimators. The findings suggest short-run causalities from CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and FDIs to GDP growth rate, and both short-run and long-run causalities based on different estimators. The identified causalities can serve as recommendations for policymakers to enhance sustainable development in the renewable energy sector.
