Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of tumor mitotic rate (TMR) in cutaneous melanoma and assess its significance as a predictor for overall, melanoma-specific, and recurrence-free survival. The study found a clear association between increasing TMR and decreased overall survival, melanoma-specific survival, and recurrence-free survival.

Summary: This study used a deep learning and neural network model (DeepSurv) to predict the survival rate of patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). The DeepSurv model was found to be more accurate in predicting the survival time of CMM patients compared to the Cox proportional-hazards (CoxPH) model.

Summary: Detection and quantification of senescent cells is challenging. It is accepted to use a combination of markers and cellular characteristics to define senescent cells in vitro. This study provides a comprehensive comparison of biomarkers and cellular characteristics used to detect senescence in melanocytic systems, aiming to support the development of standardized senescence detection and quantification.

Summary: Malignant melanoma has limited treatment options and poor prognosis. Targeting estrogen receptor (ER) signaling could be an effective therapeutic approach. High expression of ERα gene is associated with improved overall survival, while ERβ gene expression does not change with tumor progression. Targeting ERβ signaling combined with targeted nitric oxide release shows promise in preventing metastatic spread and reducing tumor growth in malignant melanoma.

Summary: This study investigated the potential roles of cellular de novo fatty acid synthesis in the Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV) infection. The results showed that SGIV infection increased the expression levels of key enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis and induced the formation of lipid droplets. Inhibition of fatty acid synthesis was found to be essential for SGIV replication and also increased the immune and inflammatory response during the infection. These findings suggest that SGIV infection regulates host lipid metabolism and that cellular fatty acid synthesis plays a crucial role in virus entry and host immune response.

Summary: The study investigated the diagnostic and prognostic utility of conventional pan-melanoma cocktail members in malignant melanoma, in combination with SOX10 and SOX11 immunohistochemical expression. SOX11 positivity was directly correlated with clinicopathological factors, while the conventional pan-melanoma cocktail successfully differentiated benign nevi from melanomas.

Summary: Melanoma mortality rates in Spain have increased over the past 40 years, but have started to stabilize and even decrease in recent years, especially in younger cohorts. A period effect was observed in the early 21st century, with mortality rates now starting to decrease.

Summary: This study investigates the association between immune checkpoint inhibitor genes and survival rates in elderly melanoma patients, and identifies TNFRSF4 gene as being correlated with lower survival rates in the older age group and higher gene expression in the younger age group. The study provides a foundation for further exploration of aging responses in melanoma patients and potential therapeutic targets.

Summary: Spider venom-derived novel linear amphipathic alpha-helical anticancer peptide LVTX-9 shows promising cytotoxic activity against melanoma cells. Fatty acid modification significantly enhances the cytotoxicity of LVTX-9, with the lipopeptide LVTX-9-C-18 demonstrating the highest activity. Potential direct cell membrane disruption is identified as the main mechanism of action for LVTX-9-C-18 in inducing cancer cell death, making it a promising lead compound for developing anticancer drugs.

Summary: eIF4F plays diverse roles in human cancers, with overexpression of EIF4G1 being more selective than EIF4E, serving as a prognostic indicator in cancer patients. This expression imbalance affects housekeeping pathways and cancer-related pathways, leading to cap-independent initiation due to eIF4G1 hyperphosphorylation. These findings provide a novel model of dysregulated eIF4F function and highlight the clinical relevance of cap-(in)dependent initiation in cancer.
