Effects of Resistance Priming Exercise on Within-day Jumping Performance and its Relationship with Strength Level

Jaime Gonzalez-Garcia, Christopher Latella, Millan Aguilar-Navarro, Blanca Romero-Moraleda

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of same-day resistance priming exercise on countermovement jump parameters and subjective readiness, and to examine whether baseline strength level influenced these outcomes. The findings suggest that velocity-based high-load low-volume priming exercise has the potential to positively impact jump performance and subjective readiness later that day in certain individuals. However, the response may be influenced by participants' absolute strength level, which needs further confirmation in subsequent studies.

A comparison of three load-velocity based methods to estimate maximum overhead press performance in weightlifters

Marcos A. Soriano, Ester Jimenez-Ormeno, G. Gregory Haff, Paul Comfort, Veronica Giraldez-Costas, Carlos Ruiz-Moreno, Amador Garcia-Ramos

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the use of lifting velocity for estimating the 1RM in overhead press and compare the accuracy of three velocity-based methods. The results suggest that the Multiple-Point and Two-Point(45-90) velocity-based methods may be viable tools for predicting the overhead press 1RM in weightlifters, but practitioners are encouraged to use the direct 1RM for a more accurate prescription of the training loads.

The Five-substitution Option Enhances Teams' Running Performance at High Speed in Football

Alejandro Lopez-Valenciano, Victor Moreno-Perez, Roberto Lopez-Del Campo, Ricardo Resta, Juan Del Coso

Summary: The introduction of the five-substitution option in professional football teams increased the number of substitutions per match but did not change the timing of the first substitution. However, it led to higher running distances at higher speeds (21.0-23.9 km/h and >= 24.0 km/h) and was associated with increased running performance by starting players rather than substitutes. This option allowed team coaches to better manage players' physical load and enhance their running performance.

Summary: The influence of the rs8111989 polymorphism in the muscle-specific creatine kinase gene ( CKM ) on injury incidence is unknown. This study found that the CKM polymorphism did not affect injury incidence in high-performance football players. However, players with the GA genotype were more prone to severe injuries and muscle tears.

Research Trends in the Effect of Caffeine Intake on Fat Oxidation: A Bibliometric and Visual Analysis

Jorge Gutierrez-Hellin, Juan Del Coso, Mario C. Espada, Victor Hernandez-Beltran, Catia C. Ferreira, David Varillas-Delgado, Nuria Mendoza Laiz, Justin D. Roberts, Jose M. Gamonales

Summary: In recent decades, there have been numerous studies investigating the effects of oral caffeine intake on fat oxidation. However, there has been no bibliometric analysis to assess the research activity in this field. This study conducted a bibliometric and visual analysis to assess the scientific output regarding oral caffeine intake and fat oxidation rate. The findings demonstrate that this is a nutrition research area with a strong foundational base of scientific evidence, and future research should focus on the effects of sex and caffeine tolerance on fat burning, as well as translational research in ecologically valid contexts.
