Summary: This study aimed to visualize meningiomas and dural tails intraoperatively using delayed-window indocyanine green (ICG) technique. The results showed that NIR fluorescence could accurately identify meningiomas and was correlated with MRI findings and blood-brain barrier permeability. DWIG had high sensitivity and positive predictive value in tumor identification.

Summary: Researchers developed a nanoplatform called UICCIP, which combines indocyanine green-equipped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with CeO2 modified with NH2-PEG1000-cRGDfK. This nanoplatform enhances the photodynamic therapy (PDT) effect of tumors by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) through two pathways.

Summary: Phototherapy, including photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), is widely used for cancer treatment, but conventional PTT/PDT lack disease recognition ability, resulting in limited therapeutic effects. Integrating fluorescence imaging with PTT/PDT can reveal tumor locations in real-time, enabling early diagnosis and precision treatment. The use of NIR-II fluorescence imaging with PTT/PDT can significantly improve tumor theranostics accuracy and minimize damage to normal tissues.

Summary: Near-infrared fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green is widely used in gastric cancer surgery for sentinel node navigation surgery, lymph node mapping, assessment of vascular anatomy, and assessment of anastomotic perfusion. Although there is debate over its most effective application, this technology has minimal collateral effects and does not compromise operative time.

Summary: Incomplete tumor resection increases the risk of local recurrence, highlighting the need for a novel approach to accurately define tumor tissue. ICG, a fluorescent dye that accumulates in tumors due to EPR, shows promise in providing real-time tumor recognition. However, there are still many unresolved issues regarding the optimal dosing, applications, and challenges of using ICG in childhood cancer surgeries.

Summary: Indocyanine green (ICG) is a favorable fluorescence nanoprobe known for its strong NIR-I fluorescence emission and good photothermal capabilities. To enhance its therapeutic efficiency, ICG was encapsulated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and loaded with the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) to form the BSA@ICG-DOX theranostic nanoplatform. The resulting nanoplatform showed strong NIR-I fluorescence emission, excellent photothermal properties, biocompatibility, and tumor targeting ability, making it a promising tool for combined diagnosis and therapy of subcutaneous cervical tumors.

Summary: Studies have shown that administration of aminolevulinic acid can lead to the formation and accumulation of protoporphyrin IX in cancer cells, resulting in photocytotoxicity upon light irradiation. Transporters play a crucial role in regulating the amount of substrates, with their expression levels influenced by factors such as oxygen availability and iron ions.

Summary: This study found that the level of PpIX accumulation in prostate cancer cells is correlated with the therapeutic efficacy of ALA-PDT, with cells showing high PpIX accumulation being more sensitive to ALA-PDT. The ABCG2 transporter was identified as a predictor of treatment response, with its expression level affecting the effectiveness of ALA-PDT in prostate cancer cells.

Summary: In this study, sunitinib was used as a photosensitizer in combination with photodynamic therapy to treat renal cell carcinoma. The treatment induced production of intracellular reactive oxygen species and increased mRNA expression levels of PAI-1, NF-kappa beta, and Caspase-3. The combination therapy led to an increase in apoptotic reaction rate and expression of apoptotic markers in the cancer cells.

Summary: In this study, a new pyrene-based push-pull dye (PC) was investigated for its photophysical properties and applicability to biological studies. PC exhibited highly polarity-sensitive fluorescence over a wide range, high fluorescence quantum yields, and superior photostability compared to Nile Red (NR). It selectively stained lipid droplets and could be used for clear visualization of individual cells in tissue blocks.

Summary: Administration of 5-aminolevulinic acid is associated with intraoperative hypotension in malignant glioma surgery, with this effect being more pronounced in older patients and those using renin-angiotensin system inhibitors. In vitro experiments suggest that the low blood pressure induced by 5-aminolevulinic acid may be mediated by an increase in intracellular nitric oxide in vascular endothelial cells.
