Summary: Children with chronic conditions may face challenges in receiving additional vaccinations, such as inadequate knowledge among healthcare providers and low coverage of recommended vaccines. The review of national immunization plans presents an opportunity to address these issues and improve vaccination rates for this vulnerable population.

Summary: This study assesses the HPV vaccination uptake and its correlates among medical students and identifies barriers, knowledge, and attitudes towards HPV vaccination. The findings suggest that an active and up-to-date call strategy and extending the free-of-charge offer are essential measures to improve vaccination uptake.

Summary: The decision to accept influenza vaccination in patients with chronic respiratory conditions is influenced by multiple sociodemographic and psychological factors. Future interventions should provide clear and transparent information about side effects and be tailored to patients with chronic respiratory conditions. Interactions between patients and their healthcare providers play a crucial role in helping patients address concerns and feel confident in vaccination.

Summary: This study examines the knowledge, attitudes, concerns, behaviors, and barriers related to seasonal influenza vaccination among healthcare workers in the oncology setting during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that the coverage rates for seasonal influenza vaccination showed a significant increase from 2019 (65%) to 2020 (81%), despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Furthermore, the participants expressed a strong willingness to receive the vaccine in the autumn of 2021 and exhibited good knowledge about it.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the factors influencing vaccine uptake and the impact of COVID-19 on vaccine uptake among community-dwelling older adults in Singapore. Living arrangement was found to be a significant contributing factor, with those living alone more likely to be vaccinated. Key enablers for vaccine uptake included avoidance of infection and transmission, as well as healthcare professionals' advice, while barriers included concerns about side effects, vaccine effectiveness, and lack of information. Greater public health efforts and information provision by healthcare professionals are needed to encourage vaccine uptake, especially during COVID-19.

Summary: The study found that over half of healthcare workers in Chongqing had good knowledge and positive attitudes towards influenza and its vaccine, but only a small percentage had actually received the vaccine last year. Various strategies such as educational training and on-site vaccination are needed to improve overall vaccination coverage.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the relative vaccine effectiveness of MF59-adjuvanted trivalent vaccine and non-adjuvanted quadrivalent vaccine against severe laboratory-confirmed influenza. The results showed that the MF59-adjuvanted vaccine was more effective in preventing severe acute respiratory infection.

Summary: The majority of patients receiving IgRT understood and received influenza vaccination. However, many patients were not aware that vaccination was recommended for co-habitants, with only 24% of households having full vaccine coverage. Individuals who received advice on vaccinating household members had higher uptake rates.

Summary: This study investigated the influenza vaccine uptake rates and barriers to its uptake among healthy subjects and patients with chronic diseases in the Jazan region of Saudi Arabia. The results showed that only a history of being diagnosed with a chronic disease was associated with ever receiving the influenza vaccine. The main barrier identified was fear of side effects, while healthcare workers had a limited role in motivating patients to have the vaccine.

Summary: Insufficient adult vaccination coverage rates remain an international challenge. This study explored vaccination coverage and predictors of vaccine uptake in Greece and found that perception of disease risk, concerns about side-effects and efficacy, and mistrust in pharmaceutical companies were common factors associated with vaccine uptake. The strongest predictor of vaccination status was the doctor's recommendation, and being well-informed about each vaccine also influenced uptake.

Summary: Despite interventions to increase COVID-19 vaccination, differences in uptake persist, indicating that these interventions may not address barriers faced by certain populations. A survey of chronically ill patients demonstrated that informational and attitudinal barriers were more prevalent than logistical or structural access barriers, and attitudinal barriers were associated with vaccine uptake. Interventions should target attitudinal barriers among patients with chronic illness, particularly those without a usual source of care.

Summary: This study evaluated the vaccine effectiveness against influenza hospitalization among immunocompromised adults during the 2017-2018 influenza season. The results showed that while immunocompromised adults had a higher vaccination rate, their protection against influenza was lower, with a vaccine effectiveness of 33% in the overall adult population. Further research is needed to assess vaccine effectiveness among different immunocompromising conditions and explore ways to improve effectiveness for immunocompromised individuals.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate the average number of claims for social security benefits from workers with diabetes-related disability in Italy. A nationwide retrospective cohort study using the database of the Italian Social Security Institute found a significant increase in both the number of applications and approvals for such benefits from 2009 to 2019, primarily represented by ordinary incapacity benefits for workers aged 51-60.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of major adverse ventricular arrhythmias and related events in adults with a systemic right ventricle (sRV) and develop a stratification tool. The results showed that sudden cardiac death remains a devastating cause of death in this patient population. A prediction model based on clinical, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic parameters was developed to estimate the risk of major adverse ventricular arrhythmias and identify high-risk patients who may benefit from primary prevention ICD implantation.

Summary: The increased trend of pregnancy among women with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) has led to a growing demand for specialized care. Maternal CHD, especially in cases of Systemic Right Ventricle (SRV), may pose additional risks and challenges during pregnancy. Current literature lacks conclusive evidence on the feasibility and long-term effects of successful pregnancies in women with SRV.

Summary: Placement of traditional transvenous ICD system in low-weight children is challenging due to vessel size and other anatomical constraints. Subcutaneous array leads combined with an abdominally placed ICD device are a potential alternative with minimal surgical trauma. This case series presents successful implantation of SFCD in low-weight children, showing good compliance and no complications or sustained ventricular arrhythmias requiring shocks.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate PTH levels in individuals with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) and investigate the relationship between PTH levels and osteomyelitis (OM) in this population. The results showed that PTH levels were lower in DFU patients with OM compared to those without OM, and alkaline phosphatase levels were higher in the OM group. OM and alkaline phosphatase levels were independent predictors of PTH levels in this selected population.

Summary: Neurodegeneration is a complex process involving multiple mechanisms, with diseases like Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, prion diseases, and ALS being examples. Iron overload has been identified as a potential cause of neurodegeneration, with dysregulated iron metabolism and increased oxidative stress being common in these diseases. Alzheimer's, in particular, shows increased iron content in vulnerable brain regions, leading to mitochondrial alterations and lack of antioxidant defenses. Iron metabolism and ferroptosis play a significant role in diabetes-induced cognitive decline, and iron chelators offer a promising therapeutic approach.
