MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been identified as important regulators that potentially play critical roles in various biological and pathological processes of cancer cells. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of miR-32 in breast cancer and its biological role in tumor progression. MiR-32 expression was markedly upregulated in breast cancer tissues and breast cancer cells. Ectopic expression of miR-32 promoted cell proliferation of breast cancer, whereas miR-32-in suppressed this function. Mechanically, data from luciferase reporter assays revealed that miR-32 directly targeted to the 30-untranslated region (30-UTR) of PHLPP2. Overexpression of miR-32 led to downregulation of PHLPP2 protein, which resulted in the downregulation of p21 and upregulation of cyclin D1 and p-Rb. In functional assays, PHLPP2-silenced in miR-32-in-transfected ZR-75-30 cells have positive effect to promote cell proliferation, suggesting that direct PHLPP2 downregulation is required for miR-32-induced cell proliferation of breast cancer. Our findings highlighted the importance of miR-32 in promoting tumor progression, and implicate miR-32 as a potential therapeutic target in breast cancer. (C) 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS. Glucometabolic reprogramming: From trigger to therapeutic target in hepatocellular carcinoma

Haoming Xia, Ziyue Huang, Zhensheng Wang, Shuqiang Liu, Xudong Zhao, Junqi You, Yi Xu, Judy Wai Ping Yam, Yunfu Cui

Summary: Glucometabolic reprogramming plays a significant role in the development and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). By altering the glucose metabolism pathway, HCC cells can survive and thrive in nutrient-poor tumor microenvironments and evade immune surveillance. Targeted interventions against glucose metabolism and signaling pathways hold promising prospects for HCC therapy.

IFT20 Confers Paclitaxel Resistance by Triggering b-arrestin-1 to Modulate ASK1 Signaling in Breast Cancer

Ni Qiu, Huan Jin, Lulu Cui, Yong-tao Zhan, Hao-ming Xia, Ming Jiang, Jie Zhou, Hong-ling Liang, Xiang Ao, Zhi-min He, Hong-sheng Li

Summary: System paclitaxel-based chemotherapy is the first-line treatment for breast cancer, but chemotherapy resistance remains a major challenge. Our study shows that IFT20 is associated with shorter relapse-free survival in patients receiving paclitaxel chemotherapy. High expression of IFT20 in breast cancer cells increases resistance to paclitaxel-induced cell death, while IFT20 knockdown enhances apoptosis. Mechanistically, IFT20 modulates ASK1 signaling to drive paclitaxel resistance. IFT20 may serve as a potential molecular biomarker for predicting response to paclitaxel therapy in breast cancer.

Mapping evergreen forests using new phenology index, time series Sentinel-1/2 and Google Earth Engine

Rumeng Li, Haoming Xia, Xiaoyang Zhao, Yan Guo

Summary: Evergreen forests play a crucial role in the exchange of carbon, water, and energy in terrestrial ecosystems and are sensitive to climate change. However, the lack of fine-resolution maps of evergreen forests hampers our understanding of their spatiotemporal patterns. Therefore, it is necessary to map evergreen forests with high spatial resolution in a timely and accurate manner.

Roles and Molecular Mechanisms of Biomarkers in Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Microvascular Invasion: A Review

Xudong Zhao, Yudan Wang, Haoming Xia, Shuqiang Liu, Ziyue Huang, Risheng He, Liang Yu, Nanfeng Meng, Hang Wang, Junqi You, Jinglin Li, Judy Wai Ping Yam, Yi Xu, Yunfu Cui

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-related death, and effective diagnosis and treatment measures are urgently needed. Microvascular invasion (MVI) has been identified as an independent risk factor for poor prognosis after hepatectomy. Abnormal expression of biomacromolecules in HCC patients, such as circRNAs, lncRNAs, STIP1, and PD-L1, is strongly associated with MVI. These biomarkers play important roles in the progression and development of HCC cells through multiple complex mechanisms.

Research progress of circulating non-coding RNA in diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma

Junqi You, Haoming Xia, Ziyue Huang, Risheng He, Xudong Zhao, Jiali Chen, Sidi Liu, Yi Xu, Yunfu Cui

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly malignant tumor with a high incidence and mortality rate. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving prognosis. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is commonly used for HCC diagnosis, but its accuracy is limited. Surgery and liver transplantation are main treatments, while drug therapy and local interventions are better options for advanced HCC. Non-coding RNA has been found to play a role in tumor development and can serve as a biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment assessment. This article explores the unique role of circulating noncoding RNA in HCC from various perspectives.

Flavonoids and ischemic stroke-induced neuroinflammation: Focus on the glial cells

Weizhuo Lu, Zhiwu Chen, Jiyue Wen

Summary: Ischemic stroke is a common and serious disease, and neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in its progression. Microglia, astrocytes, and infiltrating immune cells are involved in the complicated neuroinflammation cascade, releasing different molecules that affect inflammation.
