Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of psychological detachment and presenteeism on post-traumatic stress disorder among emergency medical service personnel. The results show a negative correlation between psychological detachment and post-traumatic stress disorder, and a positive correlation between presenteeism and post-traumatic stress disorder. Presenteeism partially mediates the association between psychological detachment and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Summary: This study investigates the barriers to reporting near misses in surgery, categorizing near misses by type and reportability. Results show that professionals are more willing to disclose adverse events than near misses, with factors such as heavy workload and lack of support negatively impacting willingness to report near misses. Promoting safety, knowledge sharing, and education in error reporting is crucial for enhancing surgical quality.

Summary: This study used machine learning models to investigate the relationship between physician stress and near misses. The results showed that machine learning models can predict the performance of emergency room physicians and identified the cortisol to DHEA-S ratio as the most important predictor. These findings are significant for reducing error risks and improving patient and physician outcomes through intervention measures.

Summary: This paper introduces JEMSS, a free and open-source software package for simulation and optimization of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). JEMSS incorporates integer programming optimization, heuristic local search, and simulation capabilities to evaluate and optimize EMS decision-making and strategies. The package includes flexible and customizable decision protocols for ambulance dispatch and dynamic redeployment. It runs simulations quickly, allowing for efficient evaluation of realistic city models. The software also includes visualization tools and has been validated against existing EMS simulation software.

Summary: Research on ambulance response times for EMS calls has been conducted for decades, primarily in developed countries. However, there is limited scientific research on this topic in Brazil, a developing country, which mainly focuses on cities with a population of over one million. This highlights the need to extend research to small and medium-sized cities.

Summary: This paper used UAV video data to study a major intersection and found that yellow time and red clearance time are positively related to collision time between vehicles. The study also identified certain signal phases that may present safety hazards and need to be retimed. The model results showed that increasing the mean yellow and red clearance times by one second can improve collision time levels by 10% and 3%, respectively.

Summary: This study evaluated the mortality risk in elderly hip fracture patients, focusing on comorbidities and nursing care levels. By using a combined database of medical and long-term care insurance claims data in Japan, a total of 6125 patients aged 65 years and older with hip fracture were selected. The study found that high nursing care level and comorbidities such as malignant diseases, heart diseases, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, renal failure, and dementia increased mortality in elderly hip fracture patients.

Summary: It is important to understand the basic epidemiology of mitochondrial diseases in Japan, including the number of affected patients. A study using a national healthcare claims database estimated that there were 3,629 patients with mitochondrial diseases from April 2018 to March 2019, with a prevalence of 2.9 per 100,000 population. This suggests that about half of all patients might be overlooked, indicating the need for additional support in the Japanese healthcare system.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between telecommuting environments and shoulder pain in Japanese telecommuters. An Internet-monitored, cross-sectional study was conducted with 2537 participants who mostly telecommuted at least 4 days per week. The presence of shoulder pain was assessed using a numerical rating scale, and the characteristics of the telecommuting environment were evaluated through eight questions. Multilevel logistic regression analysis revealed that inadequate desk brightness, inadequate foot space, and uncomfortable temperature and humidity were associated with shoulder pain.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between the type of chronic disease and the provision of workplace accommodations. A cross-sectional study in Japan involving 6775 full-time workers who needed work accommodations was conducted. The findings revealed that workers with cancer, mental illness, and benign gynecological disorders were more likely to receive workplace accommodations, while those with low back pain and skin diseases were less likely. Therefore, the provision of workplace accommodations depends on the type of chronic disease, and those with inadequate accommodations should be supported.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with the acceptance of the COCOA app for COVID-19 in the working-age population in Japan. The study found that married individuals, those with a university degree or higher, higher income, and desk jobs were more likely to adopt the COCOA app. Fear of COVID-19 transmission, mask usage, hand disinfection, willingness to be vaccinated, and knowing someone infected with COVID-19 were also associated with a higher likelihood of app adoption. These findings highlight the importance of promoting digital contact tracing apps among working-age populations in Japan and beyond.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of biological/target synthesized DMARDs (b/tsDMARDs) on bone metabolism in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results showed that without anti-osteoporotic treatment, b/tsDMARDs treatment could lead to the progression of osteoporosis in RA patients. Bone turnover markers (BTMs) may not be able to reflect changes in bone mineral density (BMD). Therefore, regular monitoring of BMD in RA patients is recommended for early management of osteoporosis.
