Summary: This article presents a protocol for wristwatch PCR, a method that utilizes a wrist-watch-like structure formed by walking primers to obtain unknown flanking sequences. The criteria for designing wristwatch primers and gene-specific primers are specified, along with instructions on how to set wristwatch primer permutations to achieve personalized walking outcomes and improve efficiency. The experimental procedures for isolating target DNA using three rounds of nested wristwatch PCR, as well as the subsequent steps for DNA purification, cloning, and sequencing, are described. For more information on the usage and implementation of this protocol, please refer to Wang et al. (2022).

Summary: The study developed the first superhydrophobic composite electrospun asymmetric membrane using fluorinated graphite (FG). The membrane's asymmetric structure and composite coatings improved its performance. This membrane, with high contact angle, low sliding angle, high permeability, and high gained output ratio (GOR), is a promising choice for sustainable membrane distillation.

Summary: This paper reviews the modified concrete thermal behaviors in tropical climates to achieve better energy efficiency in city planning. The study finds that concrete thermal behaviors directly affect energy consumption in tropical regions, mainly attributed to the use of cooling systems. This research can serve as a reference for mitigating the urban heat island phenomenon in urban development planning.

Summary: A series of lead-free perovskite-structured dielectric ceramics were prepared using a solid-state reaction method and conventional sintering. The addition of a bismuth-lithium-tantalum compound (BLT) helps reduce the sintering temperature and improves the distribution of the composition elements. These ceramics show increased saturation polarization intensity and activation energy with increased BLT content, making them promising candidates for high-temperature ceramic capacitors.

Summary: This study investigates the experimental heat transfer efficiency of a Photovoltaic Thermal (PVT) system with a two-sided serpentine flow thermal absorber and phase change material (PCM). The results show that the PVT-PCM system can enhance energy delivery by 3-5% compared to a reference PV module under the same ambient operating conditions, and the overall efficiency of the PVT setup improves with the use of a thermal absorber and PCM.

Summary: PCR, a standard molecular biology technique utilizing DNA polymerase, achieves high sensitivity for detecting low abundance targets through exponential amplification, making it the preferred method for nucleic acid-based tests. This study demonstrates that the adverse effects of stem-loop structures on PCR performance are directly correlated with their thermal stability, with stable structures leading to truncated intermediate PCR products. Moreover, endonuclease activity of Taq DNA polymerase can unwind stem-loop structures during PCR extension, providing new mechanistic insights into the complexity of PCR assays.
