Summary: Chitosan, derived from shrimp shells, was used to prepare polylactide-chitosan composite films. The addition of chitosan significantly improved the tensile strength of the films and exhibited antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria. These composite films could potentially replace conventional non-degradable packaging materials for eco-friendly food packaging.

Summary: This study developed a simple and cost-effective method to fabricate PVDF-based composites with high EMI shielding performance, showing promising prospects for application in the construction, electronics, and aerospace fields. The composite films exhibited enhanced absorption and a high EMI shielding effectiveness of 25.63 dB, with an absorption-dominated shielding feature in the 8-12 GHz region, attributed to the beta-phase fraction induced electrostatic interaction and synergetic effect of rGO and Ba2Co2Fe12O22 NPs.

Summary: The study found that solvents have no significant impact on the hydrophobicity and surface tension of PLA films, but there are significant differences depending on the substrate used. PLA films casted on silicone are hydrophobic, while those casted on other substrates are hydrophilic, due to the interaction between silicone and the polymer altering its spatial arrangement.

Summary: Energy scarcity and conventional energy problems have led to the search for a cheap and environmentally friendly renewable energy source, with biodiesel production being a promising solution. Egyptian castor is an important crop for oil production, and this study aims to enhance bio-oil production from castor seeds using microwave and ultrasonic pre-treatments. The results show that microwave pre-treatment has better effects on oil yield and energy requirements compared to ultrasonic pre-treatment.

Summary: The study aimed to enhance bio-oil production from Egyptian castor seeds using microwave and ultrasonic pre-treatments. The optimal conditions for oil extraction were found to be 200°C extraction temperature and 60 rpm screw speed. Microwave pre-treatments showed better oil yield and energy efficiency compared to ultrasonic pre-treatments.

Summary: This study reports the EMI shielding effectiveness of W-Type barium hexaferrite and reduced graphene oxide nanofillers reinforced PVDF polymer composite films. By analyzing the microwave properties and complex permittivity/permeability of the composite films, it was found that the PVDF composite with 10 wt% of BaCo2Fe16O27 addition exhibited desirable EMI shielding performance even at a thickness of 0.2mm.

Summary: A novel strategy for the fabrication of poly-lactic acid (PLA) solid microneedles with burst drug-releasing capability based on a solvent-casting process is proposed in this study. The approach offers simplicity, scalability, and the ability to fabricate microneedles with appropriate mechanical strength for penetration of the skin's stratum corneum layer.

Summary: The current study investigates the impact of Ultrasonic Treatment (UT) on the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of Al-MgAl2O4 in-situ composite prepared using SiO2 oxide source and Al-2wt.% Mg alloy. The results show that UT enhances the SiO2 reaction in the composite melt by 86%, resulting in MgAl2O4 particles with a size range of 0.2 to 5 μm. The reaction between silica and Al-Mg releases Si, which in-situ alloys with the matrix to form Mg2Si phase and alpha-Al phase. Compared to the non-UT composite, the UT composite exhibits a 67% decrease in overall grain size in the matrix material. The reinforcement of MgAl2O4 particles, combined with grain size refinement, substantially enhances the mechanical properties of the UT composite, specifically hardness and tensile yield strength by 40% and 47%, respectively.

Summary: The aim of this study was to fabricate self-lubricating poly (lactic acid)-based bio-composites with fillers of carbon fibers, graphene nanoparticles, and a soft Sn-based brazing alloy. The incorporation of fillers on the PLA surface by mechanical alloying was homogeneous, with a volume ratio of PLA to fillers at 1:0.02. The PLA sample reinforced with short carbon fibers and graphene nanoparticles exhibited the highest hardness (84.5 Shore D) and the lowest specific wear rate (1.5 x 10(-4) mm(3)/N center dot m), while the sample reinforced with graphene had the lowest coefficient of friction (0.43).
