Summary: This review discusses the differential regulation of miRNAs in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their potential diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Through literature curation and computational analysis, a consensus set of differentially expressed miRNAs in mucosal tissues was obtained. The role of these miRNAs and their potential targets in IBD are highlighted.

Summary: Patients with longstanding inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, are at high risk of developing intestinal cancers. This study found significant differences between intestinal cancers associated with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Crohn's disease-associated cancers were diagnosed at more advanced stages, detected less frequently by surveillance, and had a poorer prognosis compared to those associated with ulcerative colitis.

Summary: This study investigates the associations of immunoglobulin A1 and A2 glycosylation with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Differences in IgA O- and N-glycosylation between patient groups were found to be associated with the diseases, and a statistical model was constructed to predict the disease group of the patients. These findings contribute to the development of noninvasive biomarkers for IBD and improvement in patient care.

Summary: Malnutrition and sarcopenia are common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and the prevalence is similar in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Threshold values of different parameters of nutritional assessment can be used to identify malnutrition.

Summary: This study found that patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC) have higher inflammatory response and lower nutritional status compared to those in remission. The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score showed negative correlation with laboratory parameters and positive correlation with inflammatory markers. The CONUT score could potentially be a biomarker to assess disease activity in UC.

Summary: The study found that smoking was associated with an increased risk of ulcerative colitis, while offering potential protection against Crohn's disease. However, genetic evidence did not support a causal relationship between smoking intensity and the development of these inflammatory bowel diseases.

Summary: This study analyzed real-world practice patterns and graft survival after corneal transplantation for infectious keratitis in the Netherlands. The most common indication for transplantation was viral keratitis, followed by bacterial and Acanthamoeba keratitis. HLA matching did not provide a significant survival benefit, while emergency procedures and grafts sized >8.5 mm had poor survival. Acanthamoeba had a worse prognosis in therapeutic keratoplasty compared to viral and bacterial keratitis.

Summary: This study described the training process of observers for the Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity (DIGEST) scale in fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), determined observer agreement on DIGEST in FEES, explored the effect of bolus consistency on observer agreement, and explored criterion validity of DIGEST in FEES. The study found that observer agreement on DIGEST improved after specific training, and bolus consistency had an effect on observer agreement. A manual with well-defined descriptions can optimize the reproducibility of DIGEST measurements.

Summary: Computer-aided diagnosis systems (CADx) can improve colorectal polyp (CRP) optical diagnosis. An explainable AI CADx was developed to automatically generate textual descriptions of CRPs, and its performance was analyzed using BLI images of 55 CRPs. The CADx showed high performance for surface descriptors, while the description of size and pits-distribution need improvement. Explainable AI can enhance the understanding and trust in CADx.

Summary: This study examined whether participant characteristics moderated the effects of two cognitive behavioral interventions on concerns about falling in older community-dwelling individuals. Secondary analyses of two RCTs were conducted, involving the group intervention A Matter of Balance - Netherlands (AMB-NL) (n = 540) and individual AMB - Home (n = 389) intervention. Marginal models were used for moderation assessment, including single and multiple moderator models. A total of 19 characteristics were assessed. Moderating effects were found for living situation, fall history, symptoms of depression, perceived general health, ADL disability, cognitive status, and consequences of falling-loss of independence subscale. Effects varied by intervention, time point, and type of model.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the clinical outcomes of increased adalimumab dose intervals versus conventional dosing in patients with stable remission of Crohn's disease. The results showed that increasing the adalimumab dose intervals to 3 weeks and further to 4 weeks was non-inferior for maintaining stable remission, and this approach reduced the risk of infections and healthcare costs.
