Summary: This study found that individuals with mental health stress are less likely to engage in self-management practices for diabetes, especially those with mild/moderate to severe mental health stress. Providing psychosocial services for this population may be beneficial in improving outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed the trends in utilization and cost of antihyperglycemic drugs among adults with type 2 diabetes in the US. It found that the use of low-cost noninsulin drugs has increased while high-cost noninsulin drugs initially decreased but have slowly increased since 2013-2014. In addition, high-cost insulin analogs have replaced lower-cost human insulins.

Summary: This study assessed the cost-effectiveness of collaborative care versus usual care in adults with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes and depression in India. The findings suggest that collaborative care can be cost-effective, especially when integrated in clinical workflows.

Summary: This study examined the association between caregiver strain and diabetes self-care among adult caregivers with diabetes in the US. The findings indicated that a high level of caregiver strain was associated with low medication adherence among caregivers with diabetes. Increased awareness of the prevalence of caregiver strain and its potential impact on caregivers' self-care is warranted among healthcare professionals and caregivers.

Summary: The plasma selenium levels and NRF2 gene variants are associated with cardiovascular disease risk in the general population. This study examined the interaction between plasma selenium and NRF2 genetic susceptibility in relation to incident coronary heart disease risk among individuals with type 2 diabetes. The results suggest that the NRF2 promoter polymorphism modifies the association between plasma selenium levels and incident coronary heart disease risk in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) and severe hypoglycemia in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The findings showed that CAN was independently associated with higher risks of first and recurrent episodes of severe hypoglycemia, particularly among those on standard glycemic management.

Summary: This study explores the potential impact of metformin on the development of severe dementia in individuals with AD and T2DM. The findings suggest that metformin usage is not significantly associated with a decreased risk of severe dementia, regardless of APOE epsilon 4 carrier status.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms among patients with type 2 diabetes in primary care settings in Hungary, and the relationship with glycemic control. The results showed that anxiety symptoms were more common, and more severe depressive symptoms were associated with worse glycemic control.

Summary: This study found that lack of health care coverage and an established source of diabetes care were associated with higher glycated hemoglobin levels for individuals with type 1 diabetes, but the results were inconsistent for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Increased access to diabetes care, such as through Medicaid expansion, may be associated with improved health outcomes. Additional strategies are needed for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study found that baseline glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is associated with the progression of albuminuria in Japanese adults with type 2 diabetes. The results suggest that both high and low GFRs are implicated in the pathogenesis of albuminuria progression.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the associations of microvascular disease (MVD) with incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that participants with MVD were at increased risks of developing CVD composite, coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, and cardiovascular mortality. Therefore, MVD is relevant for assessing CVD risk in type 2 diabetes patients.
