Summary: The study involving 43,596 colorectal cancer patients found that high levels of physical activity post-cancer diagnosis were associated with a reduced risk of death, especially in those who underwent surgery. This highlights the importance of physical activity in colorectal cancer patients and suggests it may be a prognostic factor, particularly in early-stage patients undergoing surgery.

Summary: The global burden of colorectal cancer is projected to increase by about 2.2 million new cases and 1.1 million deaths by 2030. Regular physical exercise is recommended to prevent colorectal cancer, but the variety of protocols makes it difficult to discuss how to manage its variables for this population. Home-based exercise guided by remote monitoring provides an alternative to supervised exercise. However, no meta-analysis has been conducted to verify the effectiveness of this intervention for improving physical activity (PA) in colorectal cancer patients.

Summary: This study found that fostering commitment to physical activity by increasing its value and importance is crucial for engagement in physical activity. Wearables show great promise in promoting physical activity, and harnessing the technique of discrepancy between behavior and goals is likely a valuable behavior change technique.

Summary: This study found that sedentary behavior was significantly associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Moreover, sedentary behavior without physical activity increased the risk of colorectal cancer. Reducing sedentary behavior and recommending any type of physical activity may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

Summary: This observational study on long-term colorectal cancer survivors found that moderate physical activity is beneficial in preventing stroke, especially with 5-9 times/week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and 4-5 times/week of walking, minimizing the benefits of high-frequency physical activity.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between physical activity (PA) and colorectal cancer (CRC), and assess the impact of PA on CRC risk based on genetic risk levels. The results showed that physical activity was associated with lower CRC risk regardless of genetic risk for CRC.

Summary: A feasibility study on exercise intervention for colorectal cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy showed high completion rates for questionnaires and physical tests with no serious adverse events. While long travel distance was a major barrier, adjustments have been made for an upcoming randomized trial including closer supervised exercise locations.

Summary: This study investigated moderators of response to a physical activity behavior change intervention for breast cancer survivors. The results showed that breast cancer survivors who received chemotherapy, were within 2 years of diagnosis, and were single were less likely to achieve moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of 150+ weekly minutes. Further research is needed to determine additional support and resources that may benefit these subgroups of breast cancer survivors.

Summary: Physical activity has an effect on sex steroid hormone levels, with a decrease in estrogens, progestins, and androgens, and an increase in sex hormone binding globulin. These findings support the role of physical activity in preventing breast cancer.

Summary: Regular physical activity after breast cancer diagnosis is associated with reduced mortality and better quality of life. However, this study found that breast cancer survivors in Malaysia had inadequate physical activity levels at diagnosis, which decreased over time. Malay ethnicity and being underweight were significantly associated with low physical activity levels. It is important to communicate about the benefits of physical activity on cancer outcomes and continue to encourage breast cancer survivors to be physically active throughout their survivorship, particularly among Malay ethnic group and underweight patients.

Summary: This review analyzed different protocols of physical activity interventions for breast cancer patients and proposed a possible standard operating procedure for exercise training. The findings suggested that physical activity has positive effects on improving the physical and psychological health of breast cancer patients and reducing disease symptoms. However, due to the heterogeneity of the included studies and inconsistent results, a specific standard operating procedure could not be proposed at this time.
