Summary: Circular RNA (circRNA) is a promising biomarker for cancer due to its high stability from circular structure. In this study, downregulated circRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were identified and their associations with prognosis were evaluated. The low expression of hsa_circ_0036683 was found to be an independent prognostic factor for poor outcomes in HCC patients undergoing curative surgery.

Summary: Thyroid tumors are the most common neoplastic pathology of the endocrine system, with mutations in oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes playing a role in their development. Noncoding RNAs have been found to be crucial in regulating gene expression and tumor progression in thyroid cancer. Evaluating the noncoding RNA network could lead to a more personalized approach in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of thyroid cancer.

Summary: Many supervised machine learning methods have been developed to classify and identify novel noncoding RNA (ncRNA) sequences. However, there is a lack of standardized methodologies and databases for generating high-quality negative examples. In this work, a novel method called NeRNA is developed to generate negative sequences for ncRNA analysis. NeRNA is tested on four different ncRNA datasets and demonstrates high performance in miRNA prediction. It is released as an easy-to-use, updatable, and modifiable KNIME workflow for RNA sequence data analysis.

Summary: This meta-analysis revealed that aberrantly expressed circRNAs are closely associated with clinicopathological parameters, diagnostic, and prognostic values in osteosarcoma. Overexpression of oncogenic circRNAs was linked to poor prognosis, while upregulation of tumor-suppressor circRNAs was correlated with better survival outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to use a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) risk signature for predicting the survival of osteosarcoma patients and investigate its potential functions. Four lncRNAs were identified as independent prognostic factors and a reliable risk signature was constructed. Functional enrichment analysis provided new insights into the role of these lncRNAs in osteosarcoma.

Summary: Osteosarcoma is the most frequent bone malignancy in children and adolescents, with the development of multi-drug resistance posing a major obstacle in improving chemotherapy efficacy. Research has shown that noncoding RNAs play significant roles in osteosarcoma progression and chemosensitivity, highlighting their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets for improving patient prognosis.

Summary: This study identified four potential immune-related gene markers for the diagnosis and prognosis of sepsis using DEGs and machine learning methods. ROC curves and survival analysis were used to evaluate their diagnostic and prognostic abilities. GSEA and ssGSEA analysis further elucidated the molecular mechanisms and immune-related processes. Validation in a septic mouse model confirmed the expression patterns of these potential biomarkers.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most deadly cancer worldwide. The absence of early diagnostic markers and effective therapeutic approaches poses major challenges in clinical treatment. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as important regulators in the initiation and development of HCC. Activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway significantly impacts cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in HCC.

Summary: In this study, a glycosyltransferase-related mRNA signature (GRMS) was established based on gene expression profiling analysis, which was closely associated with the clinical prognosis of glioma patients. Glioma patients with high GRMS showed better progression-free survival and higher tumor mutation burden values in response to anti-tumor immunotherapy. Therefore, the GRMS could serve as a powerful biomarker for improving the clinical prognosis of glioma patients.

Summary: Five lncRNAs were identified and a five-lncRNA signature was constructed as a potential prognostic indicator for osteosarcoma. Functional enrichment analysis of the five lncRNA-correlated protein-coding genes was performed, and a potential biomarker RTP1 regulating the prognosis of osteosarcoma was suggested. The AUC for predicting 5-year survival was 0.745, indicating good performance of the five-lncRNA signature.

Summary: Non-coding RNA plays a crucial role in oncogenesis and stemness development in various cancers, including lung cancer. MIR31HG, a lncRNA, is significantly upregulated in lung cancer tissues and peripheral sera of patients, indicating a poor prognosis. Mechanistically, MIR31HG promotes stemness-associated malignant features of non-small cell lung cancer cells by modulating GLI2 expression via H3K4me and H3K27Ace modifications mediated by the WDR5/MLL3/P300 complex. In vivo studies showed that repression of MIR31HG attenuated tumor growth and distal organ metastasis, while its promotion encouraged cellular invasion in lung and liver tissues. Hence, MIR31HG has the potential to serve as a diagnostic indicator and therapeutic target for lung cancer patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between upper lip characteristics (ULCs) and skeletal patterns (SPs) in 2079 patients. Results showed significant variations in ULCs among different SPs, with superior sulcus depth being independently associated with SPs. Adjustment for confounders revealed superior sulcus depth as the only ULC significantly corrected by intervention of skeletal growth.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of aligner overtreatment on torque control and incisor intrusion during anterior retraction. The results showed that clear aligner therapy caused lingual tipping, extrusion, and intrusion of teeth. Canine attachments enhanced these effects and required more support from posterior teeth. Appropriate overtreatment with attachments can achieve incisor intrusion and palatal root torquing.

Summary: The demand for clear aligners has increased due to their less noticeable and comfortable nature. Research has shown that clear aligners have no significant impact on the oral microbiome, while demonstrating positive results in terms of plaque control and gingival health. However, grooves and abrasions on aligner surfaces may provide a favorable environment for bacterial adherence and plaque biofilm development.
