Summary: This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness and harms of interventional procedures for chronic, non-cancer spine pain through randomized controlled trials. The study will use network meta-analysis to compare different interventional procedures, evaluate bias risk, and provide evidence-based support for clinical guidance.

Summary: This scoping review explored the use of behavioural activation (BA) in managing chronic pain. The findings suggest that BA has the potential to reduce pain, but caution is needed due to the high risk of bias in most studies. Further high-quality research is required to determine the effectiveness of BA as an intervention for chronic pain.

Summary: The optimal postoperative pain management after open liver surgery appears to rely on a blended approach including systemic opioids, NSAIDs, and regional techniques for the highest efficacy in pain prevention, lower postoperative stress hormone secretion, and fewer side effects. Any concerns about increased risk of wound infection associated with regional techniques have been ruled out.

Summary: This study aims to conduct a systematic review of randomized controlled trials on the use of bee venom for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), in order to provide clinical evidence for the use of bee venom in RA treatment. The study will search and evaluate relevant literature and extract necessary data. The effects of bee venom on RA symptoms, functions, osteoarthritis index, pain, and effective rate, as well as RA-related blood test levels and adverse events, will be assessed.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy and safety of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for fibromyalgia (FM). The results showed that HBOT could alleviate pain and improve tender points, fatigue, multidimensional function, patient global assessment, and sleep disturbance in FM, with reversible side effects. Evaluating HBOT at pressures lower than 2.0 atmospheres absolute may help reduce adverse events in FM.

Summary: Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by general pain, sleep disturbances, autonomic disturbances, anxiety, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. Recent studies suggest that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can relieve pain and improve the quality of life in fibromyalgia patients. This study aims to systematically assess the effectiveness and safety of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in fibromyalgia patients and provide evidence to support its implementation.

Summary: Tonsillectomy is a common surgical procedure, and effective pain management is crucial. This systematic review identified interventions such as paracetamol, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and intravenous dexamethasone as beneficial for improving postoperative pain after tonsillectomy. Further research is needed to determine the most effective drug regimens for postoperative pain relief in this context.

Summary: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the effectiveness of subanaesthetic single-dose ketamine (SDK) as an adjunct to opioids for acute pain in the emergency department. The study found that adjuvant SDK can significantly lower pain intensity scores, reduce opioid requirements, and improve patient satisfaction. However, the current evidence is limited and higher quality randomized controlled trials are needed for further validation.

Summary: This protocol aims to evaluate the clinical utility and reproducibility of the surface electromyography (sEMG) component of kinematic studies in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). The researchers will conduct literature searches and screening, assess the risk of bias and certainty of evidence using specific tools, and perform meta-analysis or meta-synthesis based on the results. The findings will have implications for the use of sEMG in the management and assessment of CLBP.

Summary: A study conducted in the Netherlands found that patients with severe mental illness (SMI) have different perceptions, experiences and expectations regarding palliative care. The study revealed a lack of awareness and planning among these patients when it comes to end-of-life issues. Therefore, the study suggests focusing on the values, current and future wishes, and needs of these patients to provide more personalized medical and mental treatment and care.

Summary: Persistent spinal pain syndrome (PSPS) or failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) refers to new or persistent pain following spinal surgery for back or leg pain in a subset of patients. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) can be considered for patients with leg pain refractory to conservative treatment, while subcutaneous stimulation or peripheral nerve field stimulation (PNFS) is an alternative for chronic low back pain. This study compared the effects of SCS with additional PNFS to SCS alone on pain and quality of life in patients with PSPS after 12 months. The results showed that SCS alone provided similar pain relief and quality-of-life improvement as PNFS in addition to SCS.

Summary: The study aimed to identify prognostic factors for high societal costs and high costs of sick leave, and to assess the validity of the model across different diagnostic categories. The strongest prognostic factor for high societal costs was sick leave at the time of diagnosis. Other factors such as high age, comorbidity, and hospital admission the year before diagnosis were associated with high healthcare costs. The model showed good discriminative ability and explained a significant proportion of the outcome variation.

Summary: This study aims to identify and summarize the cost-effectiveness evidence of return-to-work (RTW) interventions provided by occupational therapists (OTs) for persons with mental health disorders. A systematic search resulted in 9 articles that met the inclusion criteria and underwent quality assessment using an economic evaluation tool. The results showed that supported employment, Individual Placement and Support was cost-effective in several contexts, while some interventions had larger effects but higher costs. The study concludes that conducting more methodologically robust economic evaluations is crucial to strengthen the economic perspective in OT RTW interventions.

Summary: The study aimed to develop and validate approaches for mapping Oswestry Disability Index responses to 3-level version of EQ-5D utility values and evaluate their impact on cost-utility results compared with published regression models. Three response mapping approaches were developed and their performance was assessed. The results suggest that the developed approaches are not valid for estimating individual patients' utility values and may significantly affect cost-utility results.

Summary: This study investigated the care pathway and interventions for individuals with non-specific spinal disorders in the Federal District of Brazil. The results showed that the emergency department was the most commonly accessed setting, with a majority of individuals undergoing imaging tests and receiving drug prescriptions. However, few participants received exercise prescriptions and only half were referred to physical therapists. Women were more likely to first access the emergency department, and increasing age was associated with a greater chance of first accessing outpatient clinics.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the measurement properties of performance-based instruments for assessing mental function during activity and participation in individuals after stroke. The study found highest quality evidence for sufficient results in seven instruments. The conclusion suggests that further studies of high methodological quality are needed to evaluate the measurement properties of instruments for clinicians and researchers to select the most suitable performance-based measures.

Summary: Pain originating from the lumbar facets is common among patients with mechanical low back pain, with prevalence rates ranging from 4.8% to over 50%. The most common symptom is axial low back pain, often radiating into the upper legs. Despite the poor diagnostic value of radiologic findings, SPECT can accurately identify joint inflammation.

Summary: This study investigated the use of cerebral diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to analyze imaging data in CPSS patients and compare them with a matched healthy control group. The results showed that the mean ADC value of the spinothalamic tract was significantly higher in CPSS patients, suggesting microstructural changes. This study could potentially contribute to the development of imaging biomarkers for CPSS patients.

Summary: Multidisciplinary pain centers (MPC) are beneficial but not established in developing countries like Indonesia. A national survey on 1058 healthcare professionals (HCP) revealed the issues of pain management in Indonesia, including insufficient pain management, lack of pain data, and unawareness about MPC. However, most HCP agreed on the need for pain centers and recommended referring patients with "pain that requires intervention" to MPC. Financial barriers, such as insufficient patient insurance, were identified as the most important obstacle for referring patients to MPC in Indonesia. The high incidence of pain, inadequate pain management, and lack of pain data are the core problems underlying the need for MPC establishment in Indonesia. Overall, HCP have positive perceptions and expectations regarding MPC, but financial barriers are a potential burden.
