Summary: This study evaluated microvascular changes in the eyes of Sjogren syndrome patients using OCTA, revealing decreased microvascular density in the retinal layers and increased density in the conjunctiva. Furthermore, a negative correlation was found between conjunctival microvascular density and both superficial and deep retinal microvascular densities in Sjogren syndrome patients.

Summary: This study compared tear film viscosity in Sjogren and non-Sjogren dry eye diseases. They found that Sjogren patients had lower tear film viscosity indices and higher symptom severity. The researchers concluded that tear film viscosity indices can be useful in early detection of Sjogren dry eye disease.

Summary: The severity of oral and ocular dryness symptoms is correlated to objective measures to some extent, with oral symptoms showing a stronger correlation to objective findings than ocular symptoms. Profound ocular dryness and damage may exist in patients with few or insignificant eye symptoms, while some patients with few or no symptoms of oral dryness may have objective salivary hypofunction.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) on dry eyes (DE) in a Sjogren's syndrome (SS) mouse model. The results showed that treatment with hMSCs via subconjunctival or lacrimal gland injections alleviated DE symptoms by reducing clinical markers such as tear secretion and corneal staining, goblet cell counts, and inflammatory foci infiltration. In addition, the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and autophagy markers in the lacrimal glands and cornea decreased in the hMSCs-treated mice. These findings suggest the therapeutic potentials of hMSCs in SS-related DE.

Summary: The study identified 2819 differentially methylated positions in monocytes from pSS patients compared to healthy controls, affecting 1313 unique genes, with IFN-signaling pathway related genes being hypomethylated. Functional analysis revealed involvement in various pathways and metabolic diseases, with enrichment in signaling pathways correlated with serum IgG levels.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical features differences of dry-eye disease patients with and without patchy pattern corneal staining (PPCS). It was found that patients with PPCS showed significant differences in conjunctival epithelial damage, Schirmer's 1 test results, and the prevalence of Sjogren's syndrome compared to those without PPCS. Patients with PPCS may not only indicate Sjogren's syndrome itself, but also exhibit ophthalmological characteristics compatible with SS.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis provides a comprehensive analysis of the evidence on primary Sjogren syndrome (pSS)-related peripheral neuropathy (PN). The study found that PN is very common in pSS patients, with distal axonal polyneuropathy being the most common type. Increasing age and presence of vasculitis are risk factors for developing PN. Glucocorticoids are the most commonly used treatment option for managing pSS-related PN.

Summary: The study aimed to determine characteristics and prognosis of pSS-ILD patients, and to identify risk factors for mortality. Among the pSS-ILD patients, majority were women, with NSIP being the most common HRCT pattern. Impairment in diffusion capacity was the most common pulmonary function test abnormality. Age, smoking, and severity of lung involvement were identified as risk factors for mortality.

Summary: The study found that during the development of CNV, there is a significant increase in choroidal thickness in the corresponding subfield. Additionally, three months before the development of CNV, the choroidal thickness in the central subfield also significantly increases. Regular measurement of choroidal thickness may help in predicting CNV development.
