Summary: The removal of zinc ions from water was studied using two types of ordered mesoporous silica (SBA-15 and SBA-16). Both materials were modified with APTES and EDTA through post grafting methods. The modified adsorbents were characterized by various analytical techniques, and the structural integrity was maintained. Optimal adsorption conditions and maximum adsorption capacity were determined through experimental tests, and the regenerated adsorbent showed no significant decline in adsorption efficiency.

Summary: This study investigated the removal capabilities of SBA-15 modified with SAPTES and S-Aniline for glucose, fructose, and sucrose in food and beverages production wastewaters. Optimized experimental conditions were found to achieve a high removal rate of 80%, with lower adsorbent dosage required compared to current methodologies. This work suggests the potential integration of amino-modified SBA-15 sorbents in industrial pre-treatment of wastewaters before discharge into sewerage systems.

Summary: The aim of this study was to analyze the adsorption of phenylbutazone on SBA-15 and its influence on dissolution rate, as well as the cytotoxicity of the analyzed silica. The results indicate that APTES-modified SBA-15 can serve as a non-toxic drug carrier that improves the bioavailability of phenylbutazone.

Summary: The selective removal of Pb(II) ions was achieved by modifying mesoporous silica materials, SBA-NS and SBA-ENS, which showed improved adsorption performance and selectivity for Pb(II) in binary metal ion systems. The experimental results indicated that the imine N atoms on the two adsorbents played a dominant role during the Pb(II) sorption process, providing a potential solution for waste water treatment and lead recycling.

Summary: The synthesis of highly reactive and stable metal-metal oxide hybrid nanocatalysts by confining presynthesized IrM bimetallic nanoparticles in mesopores of SBA-15 and transforming them in situ to Ir-MOx hybrids has shown superior activity and selectivity in the hydrogenation of substituted nitroaromatics. Among these catalysts, Ir-FeOx/SBA-15 exhibits the highest activity and selectivity, with a wider substrate scope due to the interaction between Ir and FeOx.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the effect of two different APTES-modified SBA-15 silicas on the release profiles of sulindac and investigate the cytotoxicity of these molecules. The results showed that APTES-modified SBA-15 influenced the release of sulindac, both materials improved the dissolution rate in acidic pH, and exhibited insignificant cytotoxicity towards Caco-2 cells.

Summary: Mesoporous silica-based materials are being studied as bioscaffolds for bone regeneration. Zinc ion incorporation is important for bone regeneration and antimicrobial activity. This study compares the effect of pore size, geometry, and structure on the zinc loading and release of two different mesoporous silica materials. The results show that a 5 wt% zinc loading is sufficient for antibacterial effects and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow-derived stromal cells.

Summary: Regularly dispersed Pt particles with various sizes within 1-5 nm were synthesized on SBA-15 supported catalysts by adjusting the addition amount of PVA. Pt nanoparticles centered at 3.5 nm exhibited excellent catalytic performance, mainly due to a suitable ratio of edge sites to flat sites.

Summary: A simple method for incorporating various catalytic metals into the pores of SBA-15 using vapor-phase infiltration is presented. The study utilized Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) to expose metal precursors on SBA-15, forming monolayer films inside the mesopores. The size and loading of the metal particles were determined using characterization techniques. The effect of surface composition on catalytic performance was also investigated.

Summary: The design and synthesis of a mesoporous silica material functionalized with 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde (SBA-Pr-NCQ) was developed, with the pore structure characterized by different techniques. Fluorescence features of SBA-Pr-NCQ were verified in aqueous media, showing good sensitivity and selectivity for Ag+ cations. The high detection limit and linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity of the modified structure (SBA-Pr-NCQ) and the concentration of Ag+ cations indicate its potential for sensing applications.

Summary: Versatile materials for oxidizing As(III) into less hazardous As(V) species have attracted increasing attention. Ti-SBA-15, prepared by coating 7% anatase TiO2 on pre-formed SBA-15, showed efficient adsorption and photo-oxidation of As(III) at different pHs. The presence of TiO2 on SBA-15 promoted reactive oxygen species generation, leading to successful oxidation of As(III). Despite covering only a small percentage of the surface, TiO2 exhibited unprecedented photocatalytic behavior, making it a prominent catalyst for arsenic removal from water.
