Summary: The electrochemical behavior of rifampicin, an anti-tuberculosis drug, was studied in a water/ethanol mixture. The drug was found to undergo two-step oxidation, with the first step being a reversible oxidation of the hydroquinone moiety and the second step being an irreversible oxidation of the phenolic ring. The adsorption activity and diffusion coefficient of rifampicin were also determined, indicating that the first oxidation step is diffusion-controlled and the second step is a diffusion/adsorption control process. The oxidation of rifampicin was found to be complex and highly pH-dependent, with different rates of reaction observed for different drugs used in combination therapy.

Summary: Osteomyelitis is a difficult-to-treat infectious disease. In this study, a thermosensitive hydrogel composed of vancomycin and hydroxyapatite was developed using PLGA-PEG-PLGA copolymer as a sustained-release drug carrier. The hydrogel demonstrated good sol-gel phase transition properties and sustained release of antibiotics. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the hydrogel had excellent anti-bacterial effects and promoted bone tissue repair. Therefore, this composite system has the potential for wide clinical applicability.

Summary: An ultrasensitive and disposable sensor based on modified SPCE was developed for rapid quantification of RIF and INZ in complex media using DPV. The sensor was characterized by AFM and CV, and it achieved individual and simultaneous detection of RIF and INZ with detection limits of 3.0 x 10(-9) mol L-1 and 5.0 x 10(-9) mol L-1, respectively, showing successful application for real sample analysis.

Summary: This study evaluated the gene delivery capability of different micelles in MCF-7 cells and found that FePECLEFE/DNA micelles had higher gene transfer efficiency. Additionally, the ability of these micelles to neutralize the negative charge of DNA and protect it against restriction enzymes was investigated, and it was found that they have good biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity.

Summary: The research studied the effect of modifying polymer micelles with DSPE as carriers for AmB, finding that the modified copolymers self-assembled into particles with sizes below 100 nm and a lower critical micelle concentration. Furthermore, the presence of DSPE increased the loading capacity of AmB, reduced its aggregation, and decreased its toxicity towards red blood cells.

Summary: In this study, folate (FA) modified dual pH/reduction-responsive mixed polymeric micelles were successfully assembled for high loading, controlled release, and active targeted delivery. The micelles showed excellent drug loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency, and demonstrated well-controlled release performance in neutral and acidic environments. Cytotoxicity assays further revealed the superior inhibitory effect of FA-modified micelles on cancer cells. These findings suggest that the developed micelles have great potential for anticancer drug delivery.

Summary: This study developed a novel PLA-PEG NPs for the delivery of Linezolid against MRSA. The encapsulation efficiency of LNZ in PLA-PEG NPs was 15% with a 10:3 polymer to drug mass ratio, and sustained release kinetics with 65% of the antibiotic released within 80 h. The NPs exhibited antimicrobial activity against various Gram-positive bacteria including MRSA, and showed inhibitory activity on both planktonic growth and preformed biofilm of MRSA.

Summary: Binary blends of water-insoluble polymers are a versatile strategy to obtain nanostructured films at the air-water interface. The structural and thermodynamic properties of cellulose acetate (CA), deuterated and postoxidized polybutadiene (PBd), and their mixtures were investigated by surface pressure-area isotherms, Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), and neutron reflectometry. The study revealed varying film structures at different surface pressures depending on the composition of the films.
