Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of automated room decontamination devices, comparing aerosolized hydrogen peroxide (aHP) with a gaseous ozone-based device. The results showed that the gaseous ozone-based device had better bactericidal effects, compared to the aHP system which only achieved complete elimination of realistic bioburden after a longer exposure time. Further research and development is needed to understand the toxicity, efficacy and safety of these devices in complex hospital conditions.

Summary: A m-Bi2O3/Ta2O5 electrocatalyst with high selectivity towards H2O2 has been successfully synthesized, exhibiting an outstanding selectivity of 94.7% compared to Ta2O5 (80.9%) and Bi2O3 (81.7%). The electrocatalyst also shows high H2O2 yield and Faraday Efficiency, and can efficiently deactivate bacteria. This study presents a high-selective electrocatalyst for the two-electron pathway of oxygen reduction reaction and provides a new perspective for electrocatalyst design.

Summary: In this study, magnesium and coconut shell carbon were used to disinfect water by adsorbing copper(II) and converting dissolved oxygen to hydrogen peroxide through Mg corrosion. The copper was enriched on the carbon surface and efficiently catalyzed the hydrogen peroxide to inactivate E.coli. The process showed promising disinfection performance both in laboratory experiments and real wastewater treatment.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of two no-touch disinfection methods in eliminating healthcareassociated pathogens and other organisms in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting. The UV-C room sanitizer achieved a higher microbial reduction rate in non-shaded areas compared to the aerosolized hydrogen peroxide (aHP) device. After manual cleaning, 15% of surfaces still harbored microbial load, but this was eradicated when the no-touch disinfection systems were used.

Summary: A novel photoelectrochemical process (PEC/E-H2O2) was adopted to improve disinfection efficiency in distributed water treatment systems using clean energy. The process consumed low energy and effectively eliminated E. coli under simulated solar conditions. The in-situ generated H2O2 enhanced the oxidation of the photoelectrochemical system and resulted in a higher inactivation rate of E. coli compared to traditional methods. The study provides a promising alternative disinfection process for drinking water treatment.

Among 54 CPE-colonized patients, 30% eventually developed CPE infections, with variables such as indwelling urinary catheter exposure, exposure to intravenous colistin, and overseas transfer being associated with infection development among colonized patients.

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) recommends against routine universal use of asymptomatic screening, emphasizing the need to strengthen other infection prevention controls.
