Summary: The rise of arthropods in different ecosystems has significantly impacted ecological networks. Recent discoveries of well-preserved Palaeozoic fossils have shed light on the appearance of extant arthropods during the Cambrian explosion and the role of plankton and hard integuments in their diversification. The understanding of arthropod evolution has been altered, and important questions have been raised, such as cephalic plasticity and the development of specialized appendages for suspension-feeding.

Summary: This study analyzed the morphologically based phylogeny of the Neotropical frog family Ceratophryidae and discussed its evolutionary history and classification. It was found that Baurubatrachus pricei, Beelzebufo ampinga, and Wawelia gerholdi do not belong to Ceratophryidae. Ceratophryidae was found to consist of two main clades, Lepidobatrachus and Ceratophrys. Fossils of Lepidobatrachus australis and Ceratophrys sagani were identified as valid species, and Ceratophrys rusconii was determined to be the sister group of all Ceratophrys.

Summary: The ontogeny and taxonomy of dome-headed pachycephalosaurs are controversial, with debate centered around the validity of species within the genus Sphaerotholus. Morphometric, histological, and phylogenetic analysis have been used to address these issues. The data support the validity of both S. edmontonensis and S. buchholtzae, and their placement within the genus Sphaerotholus.

Summary: Orthestheria shupei comb. nov. is a small clam shrimp from the Woodbine Formation in Texas, USA, originally described as belonging to the genus Cyzicus. The redescription reveals its unique ornamentation pattern and its similarity to the genus Nemestheria. Despite the taxonomic challenges and the vague language used in diagnoses, the age of the Woodbine Formation is broadly consistent with the biostratigraphic scheme using Orthestheria in Asia.

Summary: A new genus and species of stonefly, Cavoperla excavata gen. et sp. nov., is described based on a male adult specimen preserved in mid-Cretaceous amber. It belongs to the superfamily Pteronarcyoidea, but has distinct characteristics that differentiate it from all known families within the superfamily. To accommodate this unique taxon, a new extinct family, Cavoperlidae fam. nov., is established, which shows a close relationship to the extant family Styloperlidae. Diagnostic features of Cavoperlidae fam. nov. include three well-developed ocelli, absence of a male abdominal hair brush, trifurcate setae on the apex of the tibia, and unarmed basal cercal segments.

Summary: Requiem sharks, one of the most diverse and widespread families of selachians, underwent diversification during the Neogene epoch. A new species of requiem shark, Carcharhinus dicelmai sp. nov., has been discovered in southern Peru, with fossil teeth also found in Venezuela, suggesting a trans-Panamanian distribution for this extinct shark species.

Summary: Cockroaches are important insects both ecologically and economically, but there are still unresolved questions about their evolutionary history, especially regarding the relationships among cockroach families. In this study, we used mitochondrial genomes to infer the phylogeny of the Blattoidea group. Our results show that Blattoidea is the sister group of the remaining Blattodea and can be divided into three main clades. We also revised the taxonomy based on our analyses. Our findings provide strong support for previously uncertain hypotheses and shed light on the divergence of Blattoidea.
